Trefloyne Seniors welcomed eight pairs from the north of the county last week. Conditions were ideal for the challenge and the course was in excellent shape.

As usual, the captains began the match, Darrell Jones and Derek Jones taking on Langley Forrest and Chris James. A very enjoyable game, both pairs playing well and the result was in doubt until the 18th where the Jones boys took the hole for a two hole win.

Next came Dennis Holloway and Stuart Mills against Peter Miln and Tony Morris. Dennis and Stuart proved too strong for the visitors and won 4/3.

Third away were Barry Wood and Glyn Jones playing Allan Griffiths and Barry Onions. With Glyn having 10 shots, the result should have been a foregone conclusion, however, the visitors stuck to the task and a win at the 18th was needed for victory, a win for Barry and Glyn.

Following them were Graham Longster and Jack Zeraschi against Kevin Duggan and Clive Newton. The home pair soon took control and won the game at the 16th, 4/2.

Teeing off fifth were Trevor Lewis and John James against Mark Giles and Malcolm Owen. A very friendly game with both pairs mainly keeping to the fairways and finding the greens tricky at times. Trevor took an early lead and kept up the pressure, going four up at the 16th and heading for the 19th!

Bob Burks and Graham Harrison then took on Graham Watson and Gareth Evans. This encounter went all the way and ended with Bob and Graham one ahead.

Penultimately, Malcolm Ruff and Wyn Hopkins took on Ievan Davis and Fred Curtis, quite a close game with the home pair just taking the honours. 3/2.

Finally, Martin Davies and Garfield Price teed off against Richard Williams and Alan Rogers. Hopes of a clean sweep were soon dashed when the visitors found their game suited the conditions and romped to a 6/5 win, one consolation for Newport.
