Tuesday Proshop Stableford
There was a good turnout despite the dodgy weather, with the leading scores being:
1. Dave Crowley 36 pts; 2. Malcolm Ruff 35 after countback; 3. Gareth Roberts 35.
Brian Anderson Trophy
Despite the torrential rai, nine players turned up in the vain hope that it would cease,
It didn't cease; it got worse. Despite this, three players decided they needed the points and braved the conditions, so after playing a very wet back nine, the result was:
1. Adam Thorne; 2. Mel Neale; 3. Josh Hawkes.
Seniors
Last Thursday, the Seniors travelled to Glyn Abbey, a notoriously wet course which lived up to its reputation (writes JJ)! Fortunately, the rain was light enough for the game to proceed, but it was very wet underfoot.
Leading off were Pat Casement and Keith Warmington against Mal Hughes and Ken Chislet. It was a good start for Trefloyne, Pat and Keith playing well in the conditions and keeping a grip to win 3 and 1.
Meanwhile, teeing off the 10th were John James and Steve Jones playing Brian John and Ken Bull. The home pair took an early lead, but after nine holes it was all-square. Steve was pleased with a birdie on the 11th and the game see-sawed to again be level at the 16th. With a shot here, Ken took the hole and on the next, a par from Brian sealed the game for them.
Second game from the first saw Darrell Jones and Rod Haynes taking on Mike Wilkins and Dai Rees. Mike, playing off five, was giving 16 shots to Rod and, despite two birdies from Darrell, they still lost 5 and 4. Last year, Dai notched up four birdies against us, so they were a formidable pair.
Next off the 10th were Malcolm Ruff and Alan Griffiths vying with Wrennie Morris and Dai Lloyd. It was a close game that ended with a 3 and 2 win for Malcolm and Alan.
Third pair from the first were Trevor Lewis and Stewart Mills against Bobby Sandow and Gary Davies. Home advantage proved too much for Trevor and Stewart as they came in 4 and 3 down.
Similar treatment was meted out to Graham Harrison and Derek Jones by Roy Griffiths and Myrddin Rees.
The last game from the 10th was a close encounter between Dennis Holloway and Angelo Zeraschi taking on Roy Davies and Roger Jones. It ended with a 2 and 1 win for Roy and Roger.
After seven games, the home side were 5-2 up, and with only two games to go, the result was not in doubt. However, Dave Crowley and Jack Zeraschi did well to go one up against Meic Bowen and Iori Rees. In the other game ,the result was reversed, Glyn Latcham and Wayne Connett losing to Eddy Alderton and Roger Fiddler, one down.
Final score 6-3 to Glyn Abbey.
Hubbard rabbits/
Tiger Chalice
Saturday saw the Hubbard Rabbits play a stableford competition in glorious sunshine, which meant a crowded terrace and some nervy tee shots from the 10th tee.
The result was: 1. Dylan Lawrence 34 pts; 2. Alan Gawith 32; 3. Dave Crowley 31.
At the same time, the lower handicappers were playing a strokeplay competition for the Tiger Chalice and the result was: 1. Billy Truman nett 72; 2. Ben Price nett 73; 3. John Broomhead nett 77.
Wesley House Singles
Greg Palin and Robin Lloyd were paired together in a first round match which was played in wet and windy conditions, which Greg handled better than Robin to win by 3 and 2.
Pembroke Pairs
Liz Crockford and Gwyneth Jewitt took on Ann Dassen and Rita Collins in the first semi-final of the Pembroke Pairs on Sunday. After losing to Rita in the singles last week, Gwyneth was in determined mood not to lose again. Ann and Rita were playing catch-up for most of the round. They were dormie three on the 16th, won the 17th, but lost the match on the 18th.
Sunday swingers
The numbers were well down this week due to the annual Irish trip and some seniors touring north Wales. Those that played enjoyed the usual good humoured banter at the first tee, along with the glorious sunshine.
The winner of the Swingers was Barry Thorne, with Mel (sledger) Beeley winning the stableford.
