Monthly Medal

May's monthly medal and QR of the Welsh Individual handicap competition took place on Saturday. The course was in great condition, especially after the torrential rain during the week. Some good scores were returned, but none better than the nett 66 achieved by Thomas Woods in Division Two, which earned him a cut in handicap from 24 to 21.7. The results were as follows:

Division One - Steffan Jones, nett 71 (lowest gross); Michael Disney, nett 72; John Broomhead, nett 73.

Division Two - Thomas Woods, nett 66 (lowest gross); Barry Neale, nett 72 (lowest gross); Randall Day, nett 73.

Brian Anderson Trophy

There was a good turnout of 16 golfers on Wednesday evening to take on the back nine holes and the winner of the beer vouchers was Malcolm Ruff with 17 points, after countback from three other players on the same score.

Wesley House Singles

Martin Yates and Meurig Evans were drawn together in the first round and locked horns on Sunday. Things started well for Meurig, who was four up after seven holes.

Martin staged a comeback by winning holes eight and nine and he was two up at the 14th. Meurig won the 15th to trail by one, but the remaining three holes were all halved to give Martin victory by the narrowest of margins.

Milforge Ladies

Rita Collins and Gwyneth Jewitt played their first round match on Sunday. Gwyneth found herself facing an opponent on the top of her game and could not match Rita in any department, so Rita goes through to round two.

Sunday Swingers

As always when the sun shines there was a good turnout for the Swingers. Mel Neale was on hand to give his interpretation of the rules. He was on to Alan Griffiths for moving his ball in the rough to remove dead grass around it, but when he went wide left into the rough off of the seventh tee, he took relief from a mole hill which put him next to a tree less than two metres high, so relief was taken from this, which left him a very nice shot off the fairway!

The winner of the Swingers was Matt Davies on his first time out, with a very good 38 points, and the winner of the Stableford was Adam Thorne with 35 points.

Juniors

The juniors were out in force on Sunday afternoon for their second competition of the season and the result was: George Taylor 41 pts; Ben Palin 39, after countback; Frazer Finlay 39; Harrison Duckett 33; Morgan Duckett 26.

Would all juniors please keep checking the notice board for open days, as they are coming in thick and fast.
