Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football Squad had a tough start to 2012, with an away fixture against Swansea Schools in the Tom Yeomans Shield competition.
Pembrokeshire A 4 Swansea B 2
Pembs. played well in the first match, with the boys looking sharp. Jack Ackerman, Zac Rowell and Jay Power defended solidly, with Cameron Thomas and Ben Fawcett running well along the flanks. Alaric Jones combined with Jonathan Walters and there was some good inter-passing. Stephen Varney, in goal, looked very safe and his throwing out was very accurate. Walters scored Pembs.' first goal, with Jones adding the second soon afterwards. Fawcett hit the post with a rasping shot and Walters was on hand to follow up. Fawcett later on scored himself, putting Pembs. 4-0 up, before Swansea pulled one back. Ben Fairbain and Ollie Wheeler came on in the second half and contributed well to a good team performance. Swansea scored another goal, but Pembs. held on to their two-goal lead.

Pembs. found themselves up against a very strong Swansea side. The boys battled well and the game was evenly balanced. Both sides created chances, but the deadlock was broken when Swansea scored with a cracking shot from the halfway line just before halftime. The second half was end-to-end stuff, but Pembs. could not find the back of the net.

Pembs. went 1-0 down very early on and were then playing catch-up. Although they made several scoring opportunities, the final touch was just not good enough. Swansea scored twice more before half-time. The second half saw more commitment from the Pembs. boys and they forced an own goal.

Rhys Morgan and Jake Houston battled well in midfield, while Jack Scriven, Joshua Watts, Lewys Tee and John Mansbridge defended strongly. Jack Wilson scored two good goals for Pembs. to put them 2-0 ahead, but Swansea kept their shape well and scored twice to get back into the match.
