Following another successful Long Course Weekend - it has been confirmed that the event will continue to take place in Tenby and its surrounding area for the next five years, with a host agreement in place with the organisers and Pembrokeshire County Council.
Thousands took part in the sporting triathlon over the weekend of June 27-29, with the spectacular swim event on Friday evening kicking proceedings off once again on North Beach; followed by the cycling event on Saturday; and then the turn of the marathon runners on Sunday.
Entries for the LCW 2026, which will take place from Friday, June 26, are now open.
Speaking after the event, county councillor for the wards of St Mary Out Liberty [New Hedges] and St Florence, which take in the route, Cllr Rhys Jordan remarked: “Congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s Long Course Weekend, whether you raced, volunteered, supported friends and family, or just braved the road closures with patience.
“These events are always a mixed bag: they bring vibrancy and economic uplift, but also disruption. I’ve worked closely with organisers to reduce the impact on residents and make sure key feedback from previous years has been listened to. I hope those improvements were felt this year,” he continued.
“The event is now confirmed for the next five years through a new host agreement with Pembrokeshire County Council.
“Importantly, no public money is being used to fund it, this is now a self-sustaining event, which is a credit to the organisers after more than a decade of work.
“As always, I welcome your thoughts, if you’ve got suggestions for how the event could be improved for next year, drop me a message and I’ll make sure they’re heard,” added Clr Jordan.
County councillors will attend a debrief to discuss this year’s event on July 16.
