Wimbledon is the highlight of the tennis calendar and Yan Morris and Alison Lewis, the coaches at Tenby Tennis Club, were delighted again to be able to take a group up to watch some fantastic tennis at this famous venue.
They set off from Tenby at the crack of dawn on Friday and good luck was with them all the way. Their seats on Court 1 enabled them to watch a fabulous, tense and exciting ladies’ doubles semi-final, as well as seeing Jamie Murray and Victoria Azarenka win their mixed doubles semi-final in a brilliant fashion.
Some went onto an outside court and watched a magnificent battle over three sets in the men’s’ wheelchair doubles semi-final with the British team of Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett finally victorious. On this court, they were so close to the action they were able completely to appreciate the power and effort involved in such high-level tennis - a real treat and great experience. Meanwhile, the girls went on to Court 3 to watch the junior boys semi which was another epic match also involving a British player, Jack Draper, aged 16, who eventually won 19-17 in the final set - almost rivalling the match on Centre Court between Kevin Anderson and John Isner!
“It was such a good and exciting day,” said Yan, “the tennis was fabulous and the weather perfect, a terrific opportunity for us to watch world-class tennis in an amazing venue. I would also like to say that the children behaved brilliantly and were a credit to themselves and us. Yet again it was a wonderful trip for Tenby Tennis Club.”
