TENBY Sailing Club members head to Llys-Y-Frân for the National Redwing Inland Championship on 1-2 August.

With light winds present and over two very sunny days five races were held in lovely conditions with triangular courses set by the excellent race management team of Alistair and Jan. Racing was tight with multiple lead changes in every race

The results were as follows: 1, R244, Robin Wood and Matt Goldwait; 2, R241, Julian Cumpsty and Howard Yeates; 3, R249, Dan and Scarlett Jackson; 4, R228, Bill and Nan Dowell; 5, R178, Alex McDonald and Michelle James.

The weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by the camping crews, and the colourful sails enhanced the picturesque setting.

Three boats sailed the evening race in a fresh NW wind on Tuesday, 4 August.

Results: 1, Osprey 1365, Dave Griffiths and Maurice Clarke; 2, RS800 1186, Steve and Jasmine Stubbs; 3, Europe 444, Robin Wood.

The biggest UK National Dinghy Class Championship this year is that of the Firefly Class, being held in Tenby from August 8th-14th.

Last Saturday 116 boats arrived, with a well organised system executed by Tenby Sailing Club volunteers and members of the National Firefly Association. Preparations began immediately for the following eight races.

The Uffa Fox designed dinghy originated 80 years ago, and now enjoys tremendous popularity.

This week, two thirds of the helms are under 30, 25% are over 50, and 78% of the fleet have at least one female crew member.

A wonderful statistic is that 14 year olds are competing with all ages up to 70+.

The social scene is vibrant and the theme of Thursday evenings fancy dress is ‘Heroes and Villains’ which promises to be a very colourful affair.
