Club Sailing
Saturday was a lovely summer’s day but, at race time, no wind, so the two planned races were cancelled, much to the irritation of the 10 boats who had put to sea to sail.
Tuesday evening was another lovely summer’s evening with bright sunshine and a rising wind from the south west. Again 10 boats contested the race run by James over a smallish triangular course. Three Ospreys, three Lasers, two Redwings, an RS200 and a Comet made up the fleet. The rising wind and flat sea suited Ted/Lucas in the Osprey and they sailed off to take the win. Second were Dan/Scarlett in the RS200 then a visiting sailor, Nicholas, in a Laser Radial winning the battle in the Laser fleet. Mike/Deanna were first Redwing from Bill/Nan and the minor placings taken by Martin, John then Alex (making his first appearance in the racing; welcome Alex).

Cruiser racing
Great conditions for the Monday evening race which attracted six entries. A course was set to go around Monkstone rounding the Saundersfoot pontoons to port and back. The fleet started on a close fetch on port, but with the tide already starting to ebb, Slipstream did a quick hitch to windward to gain the inside track with possibly less tide inside. However, Apatshe kept a good line and powered ahead. When boats tacked back onto starboard after passing Monkstone, Crispin in Beagle was ahead, with Tony, Billy and Geoff in Apatshe second. Blake in Slipstream had closed up on Steve in Aries. However, Denny in Heather was always close by and took an inside course towards the pontoons and rounded only just behind Slipstream. The other boats could not shake him off, and after the long sail back to Tenby, Heather was first on handicap. Positions were Heather, Apatshe, Slipstream, Aries, Beagle and then Phil in Accolade.
Next race - Sunday at 10.30 am.
Cruise in company
With changeable weather forecast for the day, a small but intrepid collection of hardy sailors made their way out of the harbour at various intervals bound for Skrinkle. Sadly, the sea conditions rendered it impossible to get to the beach in tenders or ribs so the decision was made to anchor for lunch in Paul Jones Bay on Caldey. Once there the yachts - Apatshe with Billy and Pat, Tony and Sheila aboard, Aries containing Steve and Caroline, plus Bill and Nan in their yacht - mostly opted to cook their lunch under the grill rather than on a barbecue. As the ribs, Black duck crewed by Matt and Ioan and Prestissimo crewed by Paul and Anthea and their grandchildren Chloe and Alfie, surprisingly don’t possess either onboard cooking facilities or a safe area to light a barbecue without causing considerable and irreparable damage, they headed for Second Bay, followed shortly by M/V Zulu crewed by Mike, Deanna, Isaac, Phil and Tracey, whereupon the sun came out and a jolly time was had by all. All the children explored the rocks and the caves and generally had a great time playing in and out of the water, while Matt and Ioan selflessly consumed any surplus barbecue food with very little persuasion. Alas the incoming tide put an end to the merriment and, while Deanna and Tracey chose to swim back to the harbour, one by one both ribs and Zulu also made their way back. The fun continued all the way back to the harbour as Chloe had jumped ship into the ringo and enjoyed an exciting and splashy trip back.
