Junior Sailing
With the new season coming up fast, we look forward to welcoming youngsters joining in our Wednesday evening sailing nights. Although we hope most of our present young members will continue to attend, we can cater for a limited number of newcomers each month, but first come, first served. Minimum age is eight years, but older children welcome.
Enrolment sessions will be held in March. For any further information phone Blake on 07717842713 or email [email protected].
Actual sailing sessions will start on Wednesday, April 5. There will be beginners, intermediates and racing groups. It will be possible to work towards gaining Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 certificates of the RYA junior scheme. There will also be an opportunity to work towards Power Boat 1 and 2 certificates.
Club refurbishment - February 2017
We are pleased to announce that the first floor of the clubhouse will be undergoing a programme of renovation and improvements to provide a new modern bar and club room in January/February. The first and second floors of the club and will be closed for four weeks from January 28 until the end of February. The ground floor and stores will not be affected. We welcome volunteers especially during the weekend of January 28-29. If you would like to offer your time, please contact Michelle James on [email protected].
We will be looking to hold a party in the spring to launch our new bar and club room and food offering. Further details to follow.
Summer Sailing 2017
Our annual sailing meeting took place last Saturday, well attended by regular sailors, and chaired by current sailing captain, Jaime Bohata. Many aspects of the forthcoming season were discussed and decided, including:
Club races will take place Tuesday evenings and Saturday late afternoon.
Junior sailing will remain on Wednesday evenings.
Cup races will be first Saturday in the month when there will be three short races in a mini series for that month’s cup.
The club championship will remain over all races from April to end September.
There will be early, mid and late series as the summer progresses.
The curry after the meeting ended (over running by only four minutes, well done Jaime!) was enjoyed by many members who spent a sociable night in the club.
The Club Regatta and Round Caldey Island race are scheduled for June 24 and 25, and the club will be running the National Championship of the RS200 class of dinghy from Saturday, August 26 to Thursday, August 31.
Volunteers will be needed to help with both events, both on and off the water. In particular, the RS200 Nationals will be the biggest event hosted by the club in 10 years, with over 100 double-handed boats expected. Please diarise now and register your intention/availability to help (no firm commitment required at this stage) by contacting our National Race Officer and TSC Nationals co-ordinator, Mark Dashfield, tel. 01834 844918 or email [email protected].
Some time during the summer a Cruise in Company may be organised to a local beach.
