Club Sailing

It was blowing last Saturday, and from the east, meaning it was rough! But the sun was shining, and otherwise, it was a lovely autumn day. Five boats fancied trying their luck in the two planned races and after a difficult launch off the Mayor’s slip they set out into the bay. The Phantom (Jon) and the Osprey (Ted/Lucas) were first out to sea and found things were ok going up wind, but off the wind, it was very easy to get things wrong, which they both did pretty quickly, and capsized. The two Lasers, helmed by Harri and Carwyn, did rather better, and so did the RS500 of Ed/Tom, and after some confusion over whether the race would run, during which the Phantom and Osprey returned to shore, a race over a smallish triangular course commenced. The RS500 and Harri in the Laser completed the two lap race, in that order. In fact, after several capsizes between them there was only one second between them on corrected time at the end. Carwyn retired at the windward mark then enjoyed himself planing and surfing his way back to shore. Thanks to Richard, Igor and Max for providing rescue cover and running the race. Given the conditions, the planned second race was cancelled.

Junior report

No sailing now until next spring, but a reminder about the social get together on Wednesday, November 2, at 6 pm, and the junior Christmas party on Friday, December 9, at 7 pm.

Regardless of the lack of sailing at Tenby, two of the club’s juniors have been selected for the Welsh Sailing Squads. Ioan Thompson has been selected as a helm in the RS Feva class, while his brother, Oscar, has been selected for the Welsh Topper squad. Many congratulations to them.
