Sailing

The draft racing calendar for this year has been put together by racing captain Mike Stace. The first racing is on Saturday, April 2, with two races back-to-back starting at 5 pm. Midweek racing will start in early May on a Tuesday evening, once the evenings become a little lighter. Time to get boats out of storage and into top condition!

For all those who would like to have a go at sailing, but don`t know where to start, the club will be running taster sessions in its annual come and try event on Sunday, May 15, run in conjunction with the RYA ‘Push the Boat Out’ event. There will be the opportunity for anyone wanting to have a go, to be taken out in dinghies, ribs or cruisers. This will be free for non-members as well as members. Plenty of time to think about it and for the weather to warm up.

Further information from Blake on 07717842713.

There will also be the opportunity for any adults wanting to learn to sail to have a go on Wednesday evenings by arrangement. Come down to the club on a Wednesday evening if interested.

Juniors

The next social evening will be on Wednesday, March 16, starting 5.30 pm. Activities will include a quiz and an early Easter egg hunt. There will also be a second opportunity to enrol for the coming season’s sail training. There are still a few spaces left for both beginners and improvers.

For further information, ring Blake on 07717842713 or go to the website www.tenbysailingclub.org.uk  and look under juniors, or just turn up next Wednesday from 5.30 pm.  You do not have to own a boat, just come along and see if you like it.

Training provided in sailing dinghies and power boats every Wednesday evening from 5 pm from April to September.

Power Boat training

Nine members completed their training last Saturday to gain their Power Boat 2 certificates, including Hope Yeates, who becomes the youngest holder of a PB2 certificate in the UK. Well done Hope. Three juniors also passed their Power Boat 1 stage. It is hoped that these newly qualified members will be able to help out on sailing and training events. Many thanks to our team of instructors and on-shore helpers and tractor driver, not forgetting the sailing club for providing and maintaining the 5 RIBs that were used.

On March 20, there will be power boat training for any member wishing to brush-up their skills and familiarise themselves with our current craft.

We have a rolling programme of replacement for the engines so that none are over five years old. There is an added expense this year when Orange Duck itself will be replaced after 20 years’ good and faithful service.

The photo shows all the trainees in a foreign harbour(!) testing their going alongside skills. Many thanks to Saundersfoot Harbourmaster for permitting use of the harbour to practice close quarter skills.
