Club Sailing
It was another glorious evening on Wednesday; bright warm sunshine and a fickle force three northerly breeze providing excellent sailing conditions. Nine boats contested the race; three Ospreys, an RS500, an RS200 piloted for the first time by Mark Dashfield crewed by Ieuan, a Redwing, a Streaker and two of the club Lasers. On the first beat, the Ospreys powered to the front, with the RS500 mixing it with the faster boats. Two spinnaker reaches followed in a breeze not quite strong enough to get the boats really motoring. On the next beat, Ed in the RS500 tacked vigorously, missed his toe straps and threw himself over the side! He was recovered after a short swim and he and Emily went on to take the win on corrected time, from Ted and Matt, Osprey, second, and Mike and Deanna, also Osprey, third. It was lush on Sunday, too, but the forecast northerly disappeared at race time and a very slow one lap race followed, won by Dan and Ruby, RS200, from Paul and Steve, Osprey, and Ted and Matt, Osprey. The planned second race was abandoned. Cruisers Round Caldey
A round Caldey Race for cruisers was held as part of the regatta weekend last week. Only four local boats entered and Tejada, helmed by John Griffiths, proved master of the light conditions. Second was Aries helmed by Steve Lewis, third Astra helmed by Chris Lawrence, and fourth Slipstream, Blake Shaw.
Juniors
Once again excellent sailing weather for the Club Youth Racing Circuit event held at Tenby last Saturday. Bright warm sunshine and a force three to four northerly breeze. A total of 17 boats took part, with youngsters from most Pembrokeshire clubs involved. There were four races sailed back to back with a total of three hours on the water. Classes included Optimists, Toppers, Fevas and Lasers with prizes for experienced and training fleets. Local youngsters Harrison Richards, Lewis James and Archie North were 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Topper training fleet. We hope to see them in the main fleet next time. Max Richards, sailing a Tera, was 2nd in his race, Harriet Sleight and Hollie Macdonald in a Feva were 3rd in the general handicap, with James May in a Laser 4th. Many thanks to all the 20 volunteers who helped to run it in the committee boat, safety boats, dinghy park and in the kitchen, and to the parents for their enthusiasm
