Club Sailing
From one extreme to the other! The gales rain and murk put paid to sailing on Sunday which was cancelled. Hope for better this week.
unior Sailing
With the new season now upon us, we look forward to welcoming youngsters joining in our Wednesday evening sailing nights. Although we hope most of our present young members will continue to attend, we can cater for a limited number of newcomers each month, but first come first served.
Two enrolment sessions will be held on Wednesdays, April 9 and 16, starting 6 pm. Plans for the season will be discussed. Parent or guardians required to countersign entry forms. If there is a problem turning up on those nights, then phone Blake on 07717842713 for information.
Actual sailing sessions will start on Wednesday, April 23. Please turn up by 5 pm to get on the water by 5.45 pm. Off the water around 7.15 pm. Youngsters should finish putting boats away, changing etc by 7.45. BBQ food available after sailing, so parents invited to come along and join in.
There will be beginners, intermediates and racing groups. It will be possible to work towards Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 certificates of the RYA junior scheme.
Juniors will need to be members of the club, £15 or £10 if part of a family, then £10 per month payable in advance. The first payment will cover sessions until the end of May. If there is a demand, a beginners Optimist group may be added to be on the water by 5 pm.
Forthcoming Events
April 19: Meet the Sponsor Evening. Mr. Adrian Magor, of St James Place financial advisors, will be at the club to meet members and introduce himself. Adrian has been a member for a while and has generously agreed to sponsor the club this year. Diarise this event and come to meet him.
September: Greek flotilla holiday. Still a few places left - book early to avoid disappointment! Please contact Paul Evenden.
Darts
The last match of the season did not go to plan. We were whitewashed - nothing unusual I hear you say. Our inability to nail that final double proved costly to say the least. To put it bluntly, we couldn't hit the target if it was only a foot away. It would have been safer if the marker stood in front of the dartboeard.
The end result is that we are firmly placed at the foot of the league table and deservedly so. The redeeming factor is that we enjoy the camaraderie and humour of the darts league and so we will look forward to another series of entertaining episodes next season. In the meantime, practice as usual.
Bangers and
Mash Evening
Last Saturday evening, several members and guests were treated to the legendary Terry Evans bangers and mash and/or faggots which included his universally acclaimed onion gravy. Terry and Karin Morris produced fare of the highest quality which was much appreciated and plauded by all present. Many thanks to Terry and Karin for their gargantuan efforts in feeding the ravenous masses.
