Club Sailing

Ten double-handed boats contested Sunday's two races run by Bill Dowell in a light westerly breeze. Six Ospreys, two RS200s, a GP and Tom and Archie in the club Feva set out after a competitive start on a triangular course from Monkstone in to the harbour, left there out to the eastern, gybing there and back to the start.

The Osprey of Ted and Matt reached the windward mark first, with the rest of the Osprey fleet in close contention and the two RS200s keeping up well with the faster boats. The light wind and strong tide made for slow going, particularly against the tide on the second reach.

After three laps, the RS200 of Dan and Ruby took first, with the Osprey of Ted and Matt in second and the RS200 of Steve and Jasmine third.

A second race over a windward leeward course followed immediately. This time Mike and Richard in their Osprey were first to the windward mark, but they lost the lead on the subsequent downwind leg. After three laps, the RS200s were triumphant again, Steve and Jas taking first from Dan and Ruby, with the Osprey of Ted and Matt third.

It was great to see six Ospreys back on the water together providing good class racing in a club race, although the RS200s gave them all a good lesson in light wind sailing. Also good to see Paul and Anne competing in their GP, and young Tom (happy birthday) and Archie out again in the Feva. All we need now is the appearance of Rachel Sturdy and Emily Lewis in their foiling cat to round off the summer series!

Juniors

Last week there were 20 boats on the water, with conditions again allowing everyone to improve their sailing skills. The good weather this summer has meant that only a couple of sessions had to be land based.

The final meeting next Wednesday will be a get-together party (on shore) to finish off the season. Youngsters, parents, helpers all invited. Certificates will be presented to those that qualify. Please bring a plate of food if possible and turn up about 6 pm.

A very big thank you to all the many instructors and parents who have helped during the season.

Cruiser racing.

A reminder that the penultimate race will be tomorrow (Saturday) starting 12 noon.
