Sailing
Wednesday evening produced ideal sailing conditions for the evening club race run by Richard Johns. A mixed fleet of eight boats competed in a race dominated by the Osprey of Paul and Anthea, correctly identifying tide lines, taking the lead on the first beat and extending throughout to take the win on the water and on corrected time; second were Matt and Ted, also in an Osprey, and third Steve and Jasmine in their RS200.
Sunday morning was warm, sunny and windless. Undeterred, several boats put to sea to contest the club races scheduled for that morning. In the event, only one race was possible and that was dominated by the ebbing tide and lack of wind.
Eventually the win was taken by Mike and Deanna in a Redwing, with John Mckellor in his Comet in second, on the podium for the first time this season, with another podium virgin, Richard Johns, third in his Fireball. Paul and Anne Thomas in their GP ended fourth, despite the appearance of their spinnaker for the second time in two weeks!
Cruiser race
Four boats ventured out last Tuesday. Fortunately, after a 30-minute delay, the wind filled in and they were able to complete three rounds of the dinghy course, which gave practice at rounding more marks than usual.
Daniel in Artful Dodger just managed to beat the Lawrences on handicap and Blake Shaw in Slipstream beat John Griffiths in Tejeda when John had to do a penalty for hitting a mark.
Next race is the Old Castle Head race on Saturday, July 27.
Junior sailing
Another good turn out in perfect conditions, especially for the beginners.
The club has acquired two new laser dinghies and Harriet had the privilege of giving one of them its maiden voyage.
We look forward to the more experienced of our sailors enjoying these boats with the option of using three different rigs, from small to large sails.
Junior cruise in Company
Due to the fine weather, we are planning to have a Cruise in Company this Sunday afternoon, July 21. Please turn up at about 2 pm at the club. We aim to have a BBQ on a local beach. Parents are invited to come along in the ribs.
Forthcoming Events
There will be a wine tasting evening at the club on Saturday, July 27, starting about 7.30 pm. All members are invited/urged to attend, and no swallowing!
