Opening Hours
The club is open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 pm during the winter months.
Sailing
The meeting to discuss plans for dinghy sailing this summer was well attended, with animated discussion about the different series, courses and divisions. The overriding theme was participation; the desire to promote higher numbers taking part in club races and the regatta and a number of interesting ideas emerged.
There will be a further meeting in February to settle plans for cruiser racing.
project to purchase new dinghies in 2013
Tenby Sailing Club, as a recognised RYA training centre, has set itself an ambitious target for 2013 to upgrade its present fleet of sailing dinghies and equipment which will involve a total spend of over £16,000. The aim is to purchase three new Optimist sailing dinghies and two new Laser sailing dinghies, as well as a stacking road trailer, and to fund training courses.
The club has nine Optimists at present, but the three oldest are now over 20 years old and are showing their age. The club aims to scrap these and replace them with new dinghies in time for the start of the season in April.
The Optimist is the dinghy used to introduce our youngest sailors to the sport and to teach them the basic skills; some start as young as eight years old. The Optimist can also be used competitively up to the age of 14 and the standard of sailing achieved at the top is very high.
Howeve,r some of the young sailors at Tenby Sailing Club are not so young anymore and a decision has been made to purchase two Laser sailing dinghies to enable them to progress at the club in a boat more suited to their size. The Laser is a versatile boat which, apart from being an Olympic class with its full rig, can also be sailed with smaller rigs, the radial being the medium size rig and the 4.7 metre the smallest.
The club intends to purchase the Lasers with the medium and small rigs to give the maximum flexibility in a wide range of weather conditions.
The Laser can also be used by adults to learn how to sail and to race, and the club actively encourages both adults and children to join, learn to sail and to take part in club racing and events.
The intention is to also purchase a multiple stacking road trailer to enable club dinghies to be taken to nearby regattas and training events.
The club also intends to fund training courses for club members to achieve recognised RYA qualifications for sail training and use of power boats.
To assist in the funding of the project, the club has applied for a grant from Sport Wales and also from local charities and other sources, any shortfall being made up out of club funds. The club hopes that the application for grants is successful and it will be able to achieve its target.
Any interest from local businesses or individuals to help with the costs of this project would be most welcome.
Bangladeshi Banquet
This treat for the taste buds will take place in the clubhouse tomorrow (Saturday) and costs £16 per person. The evening will start around 7.30 pm, with food served around 8 pm. Preparation of the food is well underway and an enjoyable evening is confidently expected.
Darts
Another resounding thumping at the Tudor Lodge, but with slightly more success than last week. Marc Shepherd won his singles and the pairing of Mike Stace and Ruth Tebbutt won their doubles game. The rest of the team were floundering in the darting mire.
This (Friday) evening we are away to Castle Inn, where we are always welcome. Watch this space.
