Come and Try Weekend

Members and non members are invited to the annual free Come and Try weekend starting Friday evening, May 11, at 7 pm (off the water). On-the-water sessions will take place on Saturday and Sunday, turning up time 10.30 at the harbour Tenby. A variety of craft will be available, from single-handed dinghies to small yachts. Come down and have a go and it's free. Please contact Blake Shaw on 07717842713 or 01834 842535 if you would like further information.

Sunday Racing

The conditions were such that racing was cancelled.

Darts

Dare I say it – we almost won. Yes, we lost by the narrowest of margins to a very spirited Saundersfoot team. Again our inability to nail that final double was our nemesis. The losing syndrome has had an adverse affect of some of the team who are now seeing their therapists. Let us hope they will have recovered sufficiently to take on this (Friday) evening's opponents. We are away to the Swanlake who have had easy wins against in the past. Captain, Terry Evans, is on grandparental duties, so Helen will have to rally the troops.

Howard's back

Great news for club noshers. Howard's back and will be catering this (Friday) evening and tomorrow (Saturday) evening. The return of the legendary steak pie is most welcome!

Wine-Tasting Evening

The eagerly awaited wine challenge will take place on Saturday, May 26, commencing at 8 pm. How well do you know your wines?  Can you identify grape variety or country of origin without the label?

Come along to our blind wine-tasting challenge and have fun tasting, smelling and swirling some of our most frequently quaffed wines.  Clue cards and hints provided. Table nibbles available. Fun and Ppizes. Only £6 per person with payment in advance.

To book, contact Jane Stewart-Walvin (electronically) or Jayne Shorter (by phone) on 07855 326834.  Numbers are limited, so please book by May 19 to ensure a place. Members and friends welcome.

Please note that the bar will be open to members as usual.

Junior Section

The weather prevented the less experienced juniors from venturing on the water, so the youngsters were split into groups to watch sailing videos, tuition, and the first chance to make use of the Sailing Simulator put together by Paul Redford and Alistair Mackay.  The operator (sorry helmsman) watches the stern (back) of a dinghy on the large screen and controls it with a tiller and mainsheet device. It promises to be used a lot this year if the weather does not improve.

Dinghy Open Weekend

The annual dinghy open weekend will take place this weekend, May 5 and 6. First race is at 12 noon tomorrow (Saturday), with three races back to back. On Sunday, the racing will start at 11 am, with two races back to back.

Subscriptions and Weekly Draw

It's that time of year. The annual subscriptions are now very, very overdue. This year we are running a weekly draw which can only be won if you are present in the club when the draw is made and you are a paid up member. See below.

Weekly Draw

The 17th draw took place last Saturday which resulted in a rollover as the owner of the 'winning' number was not present. The draw was independently verified by the draw master, Paul Redford. The next draw takes place tomorrow (Saturday) evening at 9 pm when the prize will be £120. Please note - you must be present and have your membership card with you to claim the prize!

Humour

A magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The audience was different each week, so the magician could do the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem: The captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick. Once he understood he started shouting in the middle of the show:

"Look, it's not the same hat."

"Look, he is hiding the flowers under the table."

"Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of Spades?"

The magician was furious, but couldn't do anything; it was after all, the captain's parrot.

One day the ship had an accident and sank. The magician found himself adrift on a piece of wood in the middle of the ocean and with the parrot, of course. They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a word. This went on for a day, then another, and another.

After a week the parrot said: "OK, I give up. Where is the boat?"
