UNDER 11s

Under soggy skies, Tenby U11s (seen right) hosted Fishguard on Sunday, albeit with some of the Tenby squad absent due to playing for the county schools football. It was thus an 11 strong team that faced the blue and white shirts of Fishguard, who started the game very strongly and took advantage of Tenby’s initial slow responses by opening the scoring. Thankfully, the Seasiders quickly responded to this wake-up call and the tries started flowing for the home side too. Now with plenty of enthusiasm and energy from both sides, the game was highly-competitive with some great tackles and darting runs being made by players from both teams. Nice phases of passing and good spatial awareness enabled Tenby to dominate the okay for quite some time and by half time, the score was seven tries to one in Tenby’s favour.

Whether it was complacency or a lack of match fitness (both mental and physical) on Tenby’s behalf, the Seasiders started losing too much possession in missed tackles and at the rucks. Fishguard continued for fight strongly for every ball and despite scoring a few more tired of their own, Tenby’s big lead was being quickly whittled down with the visitors scoring tries in very quick succession. The red and black shirts needed to pull their proverbial socks up and start playing again or the game was in jeopardy.

It was to the home crowds relief that the team did just this and with another couple of phases of great passing, strong attacking drives and fast break-through runs, Tenby claimed victory at full time by 11 tries to seven.

Well played boys - some great rugby played and a deserved win.
