The annual general meeting of the Ladies' Section was held on November 12, during which reports were received of different aspect of the section's activities. The outstanding report this year was of the excellent golf produced by our Junior girls, whose ages range from seven to 18-plus, who have excelled throughout Britain and also Europe. Well done to them all.
The committee for 2014 is president - V. Davies, captain - M. Clarke, vice-captain - T. Lucas, hon. secretary - A. Marsden, hon. treasurer - L. Thomas, hon. handicap secretary - I. Gilman. Elected members - for two years - H. Hughes, S. Waring; for one year - P. Cole, P. Fox, G. John, A. Wilks. Ex-officio - E. Storey.
The 2013/14 Captain
The new captain is Marion Clarke, who is almost local in that she was born in Solva and was educated at St. Davids Grammar School prior to nursing training at Swansea General and Eye Hospital.
She moved to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, and began golf at Bramhall Golf Club, where she was captain in 2004.
Marion's husband Rod is from Cheshire, but they met in Pembrokeshire when he was stationed at Brawdy in the Fleet Air Arm. Their two sons no longer live at home and since 2007 Marion and Rod have enjoyed their retirement in Tenby.
At the AGM, Marion announced her 2014 charity will be Pembrokeshire Cystic Fibrosis Trust and we wish her a successful campaign for that essential research and for every success in all aspects of her captaincy.

Seniors suffer in the sleet
Lured onto the golf course by early sunshine and soft breezes on the morning of Tuesday, November 18, a slightly reduced field of 29 seniors set out in good spirits - full of confidence and eager to better their eclectic scores. A mere few hours later, a gaggle of freezing, soaked, dejected and dispirited seniors trickled back to the clubhouse, eager to get out of their saturated waterproofs and into the warmth of the bar.
The weather really was abysmal, horizontal sleet and hail with temperatures dipping to almost freezing point, but the seniors are a tough bunch of chaps and they were soon recovered enough to buy a raffle number, sip a beverage -and have a good old moan!
The scoring was not up to Henrik Stenson's high standards, but pretty good considering the conditions. The CSS for the day was 71, equating to 37 Stableford points, and the top guns were:
Third, with a creditable 35 points, past captain and regular competitor - Des Stone.
Second, scoring 36 points off a very generous (and non-diminishing) handicap, the deputy raffle tsar - Mike Fox
Proving that the cream rises to the surface, the winner was Bill Davies, who cruised home with the only level par of the day, 37 points.
Two distinguished golfers achieved 2s - Jim Moffatt on the sixth and Peter Woodhouse on the 12th.
Perhaps a few words about the charity raffle are in order. As you know, every Tuesday the seniors pay £1 for a number between 1 and 49, which they draw out of the bag themselves. On the following Saturday night the winning number is decided, it being the National Lottery Lotto Bonus Ball number.
Now, for the Tuesday, November 5, raffle, nobody drew the Saturday, November 9, Bonus Ball number, so the £10 prize rolled over to the Tuesday, November 12, raffle. As luck would have it, this situation was repeated as nobody drew the Saturday, November 16, Lotto BonusBall number, so we had another roll-over to the Tuesday, November 19, raffle. Thus, if one lucky senior has drawn the number that coincides with the Saturday, November 23, bonus ball - he will win £30 on Tuesday, November 26! - Who needs Monte Carlo?
]The competition on Tuesday, November 26, will take the form of a Par Bogey eclectic - you remember - a plus for a net birdie or better, a zero for a net par and a minus for a bogey or worse.
Jim the competition secretary has asked me to impress upon you all the importance of getting your name down for the Greensomes competition scheduled for December 3 before November 25 because he has to complete the draw for partners - thank you.
And finally, on the day that the Oxford Concise Dictionary announced that a new word has been formally added to the language - Selfie, being a digital photograph taken of oneself with a mobile 'phone camera - I thought we could add a new golf word. I propose a non-expletive word to describe a drive which ends up in the rough - a Druff!

The Terrific
Twelve
It is truly amazing what an improvement in the weather can do for the Chicken Trotter attendance rate - the previous week the trot was officially rained off, but still four stalwarts managed a few holes.
This week, a round dozen chickens scratched for corn on the links, with the Chief Trotter present to oversee the affair accompanied by his trusty secretary, treasurer, stand-in statistician and chauffer, the multi-talented Steve Cole.
We were graced by the presence of two returning trotters, first Brian Morgan, who has now almost fully recovered from his damaged back, and second, after a long absence, the incredibly long-hitting Tim Davies.
The weather was excellent for November, dull but rain-free with light winds and a course that was drying out nicely. The scores reflected the conditions, against a 15-hole SSC of 28 the top guns were:
In fourth place with 27 points, Bill Davies, who wins nothing but a mention and loses no strokes.
Third with 29 points, losing one stroke for the next three trots, the aforementioned Steve Cole.
Getting very close with an excellent 32 points, the low-handicapper Tim Davies loses three shots for his next three appearances.
Winning - pulling out all the stops in a fit of pique after collecting the booby a couple of weeks ago - scoring an outstanding 34 points, the inconsistent but nonetheless excellent Newman Vincent, who will now have a trotter handicap five strokes smaller - yes, a merciless five! - but only for a while and only on a Friday AM.
Low man on the trotter totem pole this week was hirsute Mel Hicks, whose score shall remain secret (think square root of 324), but who had his entrance fee returned and two shots added to his handicap.
In closing, just a few statistics courtesy of Steve. We have only trotted four times and so far 19 different chickens have played. This week saw four new fowl, two I have already mentioned and Bill Davies and Alan Yates. Only three determined trotters have attended all four outings, Steve Cole, Mike Fox and Bart Youll and their total scores for the four rounds are 93, 96 and 94, respectively - Could do better!
Will there be an advance on 12 players today - hope so!
