Friday, June 1, saw the welcome return of amateur boxing to Tenby's De Valence Pavilion.

After the success of the same fixture last year, it was with eager anticipation that Tenby ABC's boxers had been waiting to showcase their boxing skills, grit and determination, in front of friends and family.

On the night, locals were treated to a fantastic show of boxing, from the energetic youngsters to the more powerful exchanges between the senior heavyweights at the end of the night.

There was all the enthusiasm you could expect from the annual event.

The first local boxer to take to the ring was Leon Haines. Boxing at 42kgs, you would have been forgiven for wondering how these two youngsters were in together, with Leon giving away several inches in height to his opponent.

Haines went on to give more than a good account of himself, producing some lovely work before narrowly being outpointed by his Towy opponent, Curtis Lee.

Second up for Tenby ABC was Marcus Phillips. It was Phillips's first contest in the boxing ring, but after an assured performance and enthusiastic appreciation for his efforts from the crowd, it's sure not to be his last.

The next bout of the evening was an action-packed clash between Tenby ABC's Dan Mitchel and Cardigan's William Harman. After a tentative first round where both boxers worked nicely behind the jab, looking to catch each other with sharp counter punches, it warmed into an evenly matched contest, with both men giving their all until the last bell. Dan Mitchel finally came away with the win and both boxers were rewarded with the bout of the night trophy for their troubles.

Last up, but certainly not least, was the heavyweight bout between Tenby's Dan Blocksage and Towy ABC's Spencer Thomas. There was no shortage of action and big punches being thrown before Tenby's Blockage finally lost the points verdict.
