February 1, Annual Dinner: The club held its annual prize-giving dinner at the Giltar Hotel recently. A very pleasant evening was had by all. The food was excellent, the company was convivial and the usual splendid array of trophies was on display for those successful anglers in recognition of their efforts. Thanks go to the chairman and his family for making the trophy arrangements and helping with the trophy presentation.

Nev Andrews took the overall club championship and a number of other trophies, Kieran Allen swept the junior board, Stuart Allen the Mid Week Aggregate, with Barry Taylor and John Nicholas taking the inaugural Idris Williams Freshwater East and Pendine Trophies, respectively. Joe Pro snaffled the much sought-after Species title and Dan Thomas the Conger Trophy.

A few more anglers at the presentation would have been nice, but at the end of the evening, all agreed that we had thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and following a small raffle at the end, we also raised more cash for our chosen charity, Tenby Gateway Club.

The majority of us are still chuckling at the chairman's inadvertent reference to Joe Pro's nocturnal activities which are best not repeated in a family publication...

February 2, Dale Beach Match: The weather is really causing some sort of havoc and the match secretary is having to be both innovative and agile to keep our show on the road and club momentum going! This match was supposed to be at Freshwater East, but was amended to Dale for quite obvious reasons. A settled sea and good recent reports from the venue helped the optimistic feeling in spite of the lengthy journey from our normal stamping grounds. It was nice to see Neyland SAC there, too, and the scene was set for a good evening. And that's how it turned out for a change... LSD, Whiting, Poor Cod and Pouting were weighed in and there was a smattering of undersized codling and dabs to add to the mix. PLUS it didn't rain...thank you God!

With almost everyone weighing in, results were - 1. Stu Allen, LSD 0.984kg; 2. Ben Cook, bag, 1.705kg; 3. Joe Protheroe, LSD 0.855kg; 4. Mark Bennett, LSD 0.851kg.

A really good, enjoyable night. Dale will appear as a venue for next year and, all things being equal, it will be for another inter-club match to spice things up a little.

February 6, Mid Week Match: The best way to start off the report on last Thursday's Mid Week is to simply say RESPECT

Seventeen anglers turned up for the rearranged midweek match in awful conditions which were not forecast to improve one iota. Thank you all... and you all deserved to weigh-in (but a lot of us didn't). No one could call us 'fair weather' anglers after this and, even with the rocks excluded for safety reasons, there was a surprising degree of enthusiasm for the match ahead.

The Haven, Saundersfoot, Lydstep were the obvious venues for the boys and the wind allowed a modicum of sense in the fishing, even if the persistent sleety rain made the 'rod watching' unpleasant.

At the weigh-in, it appeared that the swing of the wind into the north-east may have had an adverse effect on the catches and just a few dogs, one dab and a couple of rockling were weighed-in. Nevertheless it was good to see a new name snaffling the main prize, Barry Newell, with some more familiar ones in second to fourth places.

Results were - 1. Barry Newell, LSD 0.814kg; 2. Barry Taylor, LSD 0.749kg; 3. Stu Allen, LSD 0.685kg; 4. Ollie Gibson, LSD 0.677kg

Thanks to Barry for taking the LSD back to the sea alive.

Stay safe as more deep low pressure systems are expected for a little while. The next match is a Rover this Sunday, February 16, booking in at the multi-storey car park. After that is the next of the Mid Week series on February 20, again meet at the multi-storey.
