A brief report this week, with no 'mugshots' to entertain Observer readers!
March 17, Freshwater East: Ten anglers booked in for the first of the year's Night Owl matches, which is also the first match in the newly established Idris Williams Freshwater East Trophy. The weather was chilly (no surprise!), but bearable, with a clear split in choice of location for the lads between the left and the right of the beach.
The 'lefties' succeeded with almost all the fish coming from that side. LSD and a solitary whiting were weighed in and it was great to see father and son Cook reappear at a club event. Lewis Brann continued his recent run of good form to take the honours:
1. Lewis Brann, LSD 1.000 kg; 2. John Loring, bag 1.487 kg; 3. Ben Cook, LSD 0.716 kg
March 21, Mid Week: This was cancelled due to a despicable forecast!
April 7, Roving Match: The blasted wind will not shift direction and it remained very cold for the latest Roving match. Ten anglers booked in and Pendine, Lydstep, Ginst Point and St. Justinian's in the north of the county were the reported destinations. The wind allegedly went south, but was still freezing and all respect to them that went!
Fishing remains incredibly hard (except for Pendine apparently!) and just one wrasse, one LSD and one small Pollack were weighed in.
Results were: 1. Pugs and Joe Protheroe 1.120 kg; 2. Lewis Brann and John Loring, 0.510 kg.
Shore Fish of the Month went to Nev Andrews for his tidy Bull Huss of 3.750 kg.
The next match is at Pendine this Sunday, April 14. Fishing is between 3 and 7 pm. Please meet in the main car park at 2.15 pm as we have a temporary arrangement to access the beach until the bollards on the main slipway are reinstalled.
After that, we have a Mid Week match on April 17, and please note that the booking-in venue is Penally Station car park, not the multi-storey (Mickey and Roy!).
