Time to catch up after the last few weeks. A couple of events have taken place, with the Children in Need Walk and the Sospan Multi Terrain 10-mile race.

Also it is great to be able to report that one of our members, Mandy Draper, who was involved in a serious accident whilst on her bike, is well on the way to recovery and has been allowed to go home this week. The Aces have all rallied round and managed to sort out a new set of wheels for Mandy, although this is on four wheels and not two for the time being.

Shown is a picture of what is left of Mandy’s helmet, so please would all cyclists out there look how important it is to wear your helmet at all times; as you can see there is not a lot left.

Children in Need Walk

With children in need this year celebrating everything that was done previously by Terry Wogan, a number of members decided to attend an event organised by fellow member Kath Brace.

The event was billed as a Metric Marathon, giving participants the option to complete one loop of 8.9 miles or two loops to complete the Metric Marathon. You had to be dedicated to take part in this as it was starting at 6 am in the morning. This meant an early wake-up call in the morning, and with my good lady taking part, it was quite nice with the shoe being on the other foot, so to speak, as it usually me out training at stupid hours in the morning.

The walk started and finished at the Croft Country Park in Reynalton, with the route being in darkness to start. Well done to the following members who took part -Kath Devonald Brace, Tim Brace, Julie Slack, Deirdre Bridges and John Badham.

A sum of £300 was raised on the day, so a great effort.

Sospan 10-Mile

Multi Terrain

Pembrey was the destination last weekend for what is generally regarded as the last race of the season for a lot of members, and with only the possibility of the mud run in St. David’s and Tenby’s Santa Run left, it gave members a chance to have a run out over this multi-terrain course.

The course is raced over a single lap through the beautiful scenery of Pembrey Country Park. It takes participants over the following surfaces -tarmac, gravel, grass, forestry tracks and a lovely section along Cefn Sidan beach, before heading back through the sand dunes to the finish line.

We had 28 Aces competing in the race, and a couple of others who had to pull out with injuries. A great number representing the club and it shows how popular the race has become.

The following members took part: Emil Chwistek, Paul Slack, Ben Blake, Neil Morgan, Steven Keating, Ian Vickery, Kyle Wheeler, Ashley Thompson, George Amos, Chris Lloyd, Steven Amos, Mel Morgan, Anto O’Hara, Dave Gosling, Billy Connor, Carlton Coates, Ollie Brace, Will Lewis, Jo Brace, Elaine Brace, Kara Ellard, Kath Devonald Brace, Ceire Merrison, Emma Tambling Baker, Nicola Coates, Gareth Rees, Imogen Appleby Jones and Wendy Chwistek.

Well done to all, with some great times set.

Little Princess Trust

One of our junior members has taken on a task recently and she needs to be given maximum respect way beyond her young years.

Seren Barrett decided that she wanted to grow her hair and then cut it off so that it could be donated to the Little Princess Trust. The trust was set in memory of Hannah Tarplee, a little girl from Hereford who sadly lost her short battle with cancer in June 2005.

Seren decided to do this about six months ago. Tthe hair is made into wigs and given free of charge, as quickly as possible, to children requiring them. She grew her hair past her bottom and on November 17 she went to Jamie’s Salon and then sat patiently for Jamie to do the honours.

Seren still has some sponsorship monies to come in, but has already raised over £500, which will accompany her hair to the trust, allowing them to purchase wigs from elsewhere, when they cannot fulfil demand.

The club along with her parents, Miranda and Colin Barrett, are very proud of what Seren has done, and if anyone else would like to donate, then please contact Colin or Miranda.

The annual Christmas Dinner is fast approaching.

It is being held at the Giltar Hotel on Friday, December 16, starting at 6.30 pm, with us all aiming to sit down by 6.45 as we will be having a number of presentations before the meal.
