Despite a change in weather for the better, a lot of members didn’t take the opportunity to get out on either the bikes at the weekend, or to attend one of the events taking place, such as the Mumbles Duathlon and the Llanelli Half Marathon.

Instead, a number of members were nursing bad heads after electing to watch the rugby the day before, and getting far too excited in the last 10 minutes of the match.

However, the members who did elect to take part in events found some very popular successes, especially some of our junior members in Neyland, and with Oliver Simon getting a new personal best for the course up in Llanelli.

NEYLAND DUATHLON

The time has come for the more local events to start, with Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club hosting the ninth running of the Neyland Duathlon, based on the riverfront at Neyland. The race is a favourite for members to attend, with a number doing it on their own and a number doing it as a team.

It is a great entry into the world of triathlon, albeit without the swim, but then it is a bit cold for sea swimming yet. The race gives people the chance to get a fast time, either individually or as part of a team. The two runs are flat and fast and, although the bike has a few climbs, there are some nice flat and fast sections.

The following members completed the race individually, Sion Jenkins in 1:06:24 in 9th place, Billy Kinnear in 1:13:08 in 31st place, Ryan Semper in 1:13:36 in 38th place, Jamie Silvester in 1:14:13 in 43rd place, Simon Stanford in 1:15:03 in 51st place, Hayden Johns in 1:15:54 in 54th place, Richard Day in 1:25:07 in 85th place and Stefan Jenkins in 1:32:16 in 106th place.

And then with two teams of Pete Armytage and Fin Bowie in 1:07:41 in 12th place and Colin Barrett and Billy Connor in 1:09:42 in 16th place.

It must be said fantastic performances from Billy Kinnear and Ryan Semper, who are two of our junior members, and with Ryan beating his brother Jamie. Even though both Jamie and Ryan must have pushed hard, when they came back to Tenby, both were seen jumping into the sea in just their Tri Suits; they obviously thought it was warmer than it looked!

LLANELLI

HALF MARATHON

Last weekend saw the running of the Llanelli Half Marathon, which has become a good event to attend for those looking for a personal best time over the half marathon distance, with its flat, fast and traffic free route, starting and finishing at the Parc y Scarlets and with the coastal path route taking in some beautiful scenic views.

Our local pro Oliver Simon set himself a new personal best time on the course with a 1:14:20 and a third place finish.

Other members competing were Steven Amos, along with other family members Lori Amos and George Amos, with Lori coming in with a time of 1:46:17, George in a time of 1:51:36 and then dad Steven in a time of 1:55:05. Oly Thomas in a time of 1:39:32 and with Hannah Lloyd in a time of 1:39:31 being the sixth lady overall. Well done to all who competed.
