Last year's West Wales and Pembrokeshire Cup winners Johnston, hotly tipped by many to win more trophies this season, haven't started the year as they would have wished and had just three draws and a defeat to show for their efforts prior to this weekend's clash against St. Clears.

With form like that leading into the game, the Saints would have been confident of springing a surprise, but unfortunately Tigers can't really be tamed and they unleashed their power this weekend with a 6-0 win.

For the past two seasons, Narberth have been under the tutelage of Peter Fearne and have grown as a unit to be one that is feared throughout the game. In the close season, Fearne made the short trip to Tenby to join forces with Mike Lewis and would have had high hopes of winning a home clash against his former charges yet despite insider knowledge, it was the visitors who prevailed.

Tony Evans was the difference between the sides as his strike ensured Narberth stay top of the division.

Saundersfoot Sports were on fire as they entertained Hundleton as they won 4-1.

Callum Grear scored twice for the homeside before Chris Millward and Dan Storer ensured the points stayed at home

James Hinchcliffe found the back of the net for Carew, but even his super strike couldn't prevent his team from going down at home as they went down 6-1 against Clarbeston Road while Kilgetty played host to Solva yet despite home advantage they couldn't make it count as they went down 4-0.

In Division Three, Narberth seconds lost at home to Tenby Seconds 5-0 as a Richard Tebbutt brace got the Seasiders rolling before Elliott Goldsmith, Mo Sofin and Henry Lawrence put the final nails in the Bluebirds coffin, while Lawrenny narrowly lost out at Haverfordwest Cricket Club.

Ben Cole, Owen James and Sam Mills all scored for the visitors yet the homeside prevailed by scoring four.

At Manorbier, the homeside went down 5-2 against Hubberston.

Pendine entertained Carew seconds and showed little mercy on the visitors as they hammered them 5-1. A brace by Ricky Hunt, followed by two from Sean Lynch and another by Nathan Davies was enough to ensure the points stayed with the Gulls with Sam Lewis scoring for the visitors.

It was a bad day at the office for St. Florence as they went down 7-2 at Milford Athletic despite goals from Jamie Roberts and Ashley Smith.

St. Clears Seconds were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after their home clash against Milford United as the score ended 3-3.

Simon Bancroft and Eddie Wiggins both scored for the homeside, with Harri John adding the other. Meanwhile, Saundersfoot Sports had a day to remember as they beat West Dragons 4-3 away.

Lawrenny seconds blitzed Haverfordwest Cricket Club seconds at home as they won 5-2.

James Bodinger scored twice for the homeside, as did James Buckle, while Steve Campbell grabbed the other.

Not such a good day for Kilgetty Seconds however as they lost 4-0 at Solva, while Jordan Howell scored for Narberth Thirds yet they went down 5-1 against Fishguard Sports.

Substitute Tony hero of the hour for Narberth

Tenby 0 Narberth 1

Substitute Tony Evans was the hero of the hour for Narberth on Saturday as he came off the bench to score the winning goal with barely five minutes remaining at The Clicketts.

Evans, who scored two goals against Johnston the previous week, got on the end of a Jordan Williams cross to net from the tightest of angles.

The first half saw Tenby have the Lions share of possession, but they failed to breach a determined Narberth back line.

However, the Bluebirds did have a penalty claim for handball turned down.

The second half was much the same as Tenby pressed and Narberth defended in numbers. Tenby hit the upright and Narberth's John Durbridge was the busier of the two 'keepers. Narberth had another penalty claim turned down as Matthew Price went to ground in the box.

When a draw looked on the cards, up popped Tony Evans to ensure that Narberth remain top of the table.

Narberth player/manager Matthew Price said: "Tenby were a very good footballing side, but we defended very well as a team and I always felt that if an opportunity came our way, we would take it and that's what happened."

Tomorrow (Saturday), Narberth host Pennar Robins.

Narberth: John Durbridge, Richard Henton, Jamie Fleig, Simon Cole (Dorian Davies), Iestyn Scourfield, Justin Blewitt, Aled Thomas (Marc Hughes), Jordan Williams, Dean Morris (Tony Evans), Matthew Price, Morgan Preece.
