Cefneithin 50
Pembroke Dock Quins 0
Pembroke Dock Quins went down to a heavy defeat at Parc Cae Carwyn James on Saturday with a scoreline that did not do them justice.
The Quins' lineout, with Mike Davies in commanding form, and the scrum held up quite well after the problems the previous Saturday against neighbours Pembroke. Rhys Marchant, in the centre, was also causing the homeside problems with some strong running in the early stages.
It was not until the 10th minute that the visitors mounted their first attack and forced a penalty which outside half Owain Lewis chipped over with ease, then five minutes later, a poor kick out of defence landed straight in the hands of second row Owain James who charged over from 20 yards out. Lewis missed the conversion.
The Quins then lost centre Rhys Marchant to an ankle injury to be replaced by Luke Barrett, and just five minutes later, also lost scrum half Dai Rees with the same problem to be replaced by Harley Watts.
On the half hour, Adi John put in a wonderful kick which put the Quins on their opponents 25 yard line.
Mike Davies won the lineout easily to put the Quins on the front foot, but just as the attack was gaining momentum, a Quins pass was intercepted which ended with Owain Lewis touching down for an unconverted try to put the homeside 13-0 up.
For the Quins, the last 10 minutes of the half are best forgotten when the homeside ran in three tries first by centre Jonathan Morgan after another interception, then right wing Darren Williams scored in the corner followed by a second try for Lewis, who also converted the last two, to send his side in 32-0 up at the break.
It only took the homeside two minutes of the second half to increase the lead when Lewis added another three points to his personal total to stretch the lead to 35-0.
The Quins were then dealt another blow when fullback Sam Richards was forced from the field when his dislocated thumb which had been put back in earlier by physio Dave Usher, was proving too painful to carry on. He was replaced by Dai Moseley who was forced to play out of position in the second row.
On the hour, homeside second row James grabbed his second try to stretch the lead to 40 points.
The Quins fought back when a determined run by Adi John led to some fine interpassing before breaking down close to the line.
As the game drew to a close, Cefneithin added two more tries through fullback Matthew Green, who had caused the Quins plenty of problems with his counter attacking running, and a third try for Lewis in the last minute who finished with a match haul of 25 points, after missing both the final conversions.
For the Quins, two interception tries and disruption due to injuries would have made the score a lot closer.
