With standing room only on the beach on this sunny Sunday morning, the water was definitely the place to be!
Nine boats turned up for the first two races of the Late series in the F3 wind. By the time the race had started, the wind had dropped to a F2, which made for very enjoyable sailing.
For this race, a trapezoid course of Monkstone-Pendine-Amroth-Harbour had been set by the OOD.
There was a hot contest going in between Rosie in the Laser Radial and Keith in the Laser for the first lap, however Keith pulled away from her in the second and third laps. James and John in the Laser Radials were also vying for position and with all that water to choose from, they always managed to get in the way of each other when tacking!
Seven of the boats completed three laps, with the other two doing two laps. Overall, Ed in the RS 100 came first, Keith in the Laser was second and Paul and Julia in the RS 100 were third. Rosie was the first of the four Laser Radials and came in fourth overall.
The wind dropped off again before the start of the second race making it less interesting than the first. After a nice first race, this one seemed a little lacklustre as the boats drifted around the marks, with the tide beginning to have an increasing effect as the wind dropped.
Nevertheless, four boats completed two laps of the Monkstone-Amroth-Harbour course before heading for the harbour. John and James both retired after the first leg (perhaps after realising they weren’t going to catch up with Rosie...).
Overall, Ed was first again, Paul and Julia were second and Keith came in third.
The rowers have been out en force enjoying the good weather, and have competed in Llangwm and Mumbles races recently achieving good results in both. They have also been out plenty on club nights and have even done some race practise sessions!
Today (Friday) there is a social sail planned with Malcolm in charge starting at 5.30 pm, then hopefully some race practice on Saturday at 5 pm and normal ‘serious’ racing on Sunday at 6 pm.
