Hello all! This Sunday saw races five and six of the winter series. Eleven boats turned out on a somewhat grey morning to sail a Pendine-Monkstone-Harbour course. Wind of force 2-3 meant there was a bit more this week compared to the last few weeks, but it was still very light in by the cliffs. There were a few stragglers at the start of the first race (AKA James Roberts who missed the start of the first race because, despite being first in the dinghy park, was seen running up the slipway shouting: “I’ve forgot my watch”). Pretty consistent race positions were maintained for each lap with Ed taking the honours overall, followed by Paul and Julia and then Maurice. Rosie was fourth overall putting her first in the silver fleet. The faster boats who sailed three laps gained advantage over the slower boats.

The second race was sailed over a slightly shorter Amroth-Monkstone-Harbour course. Even more mist rolled in making the boats just visible by the race officer. Ed again took the honours in his RS100, but the real battle was between the four Laser Radials with some very close racing throughout and some tactical wind stealing just before the finish line. Alan’s experience showed as he was the first Radial to cross, with Rosie stealing Lloyd’s wind just before the finish line to pip him at the post. The promised sun never arrived, but the rain did just as everyone finished. Overall, some very successful and enjoyable racing was had. Thanks as always to Dave and Andrea on OOD and to Keith and Paul on safety cover.
