Hello all, Gypsea Girl is back from her adventures in the land of ice (it’s not that icy).
I am now an expert in saying Eyjafjallajökull (the volcano guilty of the 2010 eruptions and disruptions), and I have stood in the Rift Valley between the Eurasian and North American plates and am pleased to report that the Atlantic Ocean is growing wider by 4cm every year.
Before going away, it was great to be involved with this year’s Trick or Treat Trail around Saundersfoot.
The club turned into a spooky bat cave whilst sweets were handed out to over 300 children.
This was the first year that Saundersfoot Sailing Club has taken part in this event.
The event provides safe Hallowe’en fun for more than 300 children from the local community and beyond and we hope to be part of it for many years to come.
A huge thank you to Nikki Nelson and the junior rowing team for organising the event, as well as to all of the local businesses involved in the trail and who donated raffle prizes.
Over £1,000 was raised for good causes. After my departure, the club Hallowe’en party went off with a bang and I hear thousands of people descended on Saundersfoot to enjoy this year’s Big Bang Spectacular.
No sailing this week, however the calm weather has allowed the rowers to get out for some fantastic early morning rows, followed by a bacon sandwich. Pembrokeshire never fails to impress with porpoises and seals coming over near the boats to play in the early morning sunshine.
Last week, the club was pleased to welcome the Saundersfoot Strollers who popped in to try out an erg session and impress us with their fitness.
The club are always happy to welcome new faces from the local community to have a go on the ergs. Contact SSC or Simon Collings (chairman of WBRC) if you’re interested and we would be pleased to help. Details can be found on the WBRC website.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the dinghy racing prize evening as we near the end of the season. Time to dust off those trophies, get them engraved and return them to the club!
The AGM will take place on November 26 at 1 pm, after the final races of this year. Racing will continue this weekend with two races starting at 11.30 am.
See you out on the water!
