After a week off the previous week for strong winds, last Sunday saw a very different picture in the current hot spell with a lovely sunny day but very little wind forecast and the bay like a mill pond at times the new race team of Ben and Alison Roberts were not deterred and set out to run the races and then in the last 15 to 20 minutes before the scheduled start a gentle breeze sprang up tempting the last few stragglers out to bolster the fleet to 10 boats.

Ben and Alison set a Monkstone Pendine Harbour course with a windward start followed by two spinnaker reaches in the surprisingly steady wind, and after a competitive start, Dave Plester led the way in his Solo just being overhauled at the windward mark by Paul and Julia in the RS200 having made a late decision to start, but they were soon both overtaken by new recruit Ed in the light wind flying machine that is the RS100 who went on to take the overall win from Paul and Julia followed by Dave in the Solo, while in an excellent fourth place on his first outing in his new craft was Keith in the Topper Mango - or was it the Magnum or even a Mango Magnum with its bright yellow gennaker, while just behind Lloyd was the first Laser Radial home.

The break between the two races saw much deliberation on a change of course, but after consultation with the well-staffed safety boats/press boats, the course stayed the same. Again there was a closely contested start and Paul and Julia kept the 100 behind them for a full lap-and-a-half, but there was to be no stopping Ed on his debut here taking his second win of the day ahead of Paul and Julia then Dave with Simon drifting marginally quicker in this race to take fourth place - well sailed Ed and welcome to SSC.

This time, the first Laser Radial home was Rosie having had a brief nap and then been revitalised by a refreshing shower by the ever helpful safety crew who also took some excellent photos which can be seen on the dinghy page.

A massive thanks to Ben and Alison for running two excellent races in lovely conditions, while the safety crew of Tom, James, John, Nina, Steve and Harry kept an eye on all of us.

There is no club racing this coming weekend, June 24 and 25 as Tenby Sailing Club are holding their annual regatta and quite a few members are heading into Tenby to compete. Hopefully, some of the dinghy sailors will be competing in the team competition following the success of the Coppet Crusaders last year, while others are planning to take part in the Round Caldey race on the Sunday in both dinghies and cruisers so hope to see as many as possible at this event.
