Well, the heat around Saundersfoot has certainly been turned up in the last few days as holidaymakers are queuing up to take advantage of the hot weather and crystal clear sea around the bay. Nice to see a good turnout of boats from the club on Sunday as we may have expected a few to stay on the beach for another ice-cream.
OOD was James, who we normally associate ourselves with a very popular magazine, but seemed a bit different as he seemed to have a look of yes I am up here in the box, but I have a new recruit keeping up the family tradition out on the water so watch out fleet.
An O-P-H course was set and the flags were up along with what seems to be a very doggy hooter at the moment. No matter, they were off and yes there was a new sailor on the blocks and it was young Harry, with mum Katie in the family boat handed down through the generations which is a Gul and still sailing well by the looks of it.
Final positions in the race went to first Simon in the Contender, second Maurice in another Contender and third in their first race was Katie and Harry in the Gul.
The second race went round the same course and after some tactical changes to crews, the final result was: 1. Keith Jones in the Aero, 2. Paul and Julia in the RS200, 3. Maurice in the Contender.
Club Training
Jo has been busy with lots of club training going on and will report separately on how the new recruits are improving out on the water, but thanks to all the helpers who come along and support as it would not happen without you all.
Other club activites
Hywel Jackson will be going to the national Honda rib finals in September at the Southampton Boat Show and will be representing Wales so well done and best of luck from everyone at the club.
Hywel held a fundraiser at The Lawrenny Arms, Lawrenny, on July 15, with a BBQ and supported by the Pembroke Choir and was well supported by members so thank to those who turned up on a rather damp evening but enjoyed by all.
The Bosun’s Locker
Club member Keith Jones has been very busy on the unenviable task of re-organising the dinghy park to make it more manageable and safer for club members. Currently, all club members are asked if they can identify their boats with tags that Keith has left in the harbourmaster’s office. Please try to help us improve the dinghy park and start by identifying all the boats, make sure your boat is tagged. There and many that we do not know who they belong to and are taking up valuable space. Keith is also trying to restrict the amount of public walkers using the park as a short cut to the decking so new barriers will be put in place soon along with notices advising people that it is not a walkway.
Sunday racing
One race starting at 10 am, with Keith as OOD, assisted by Julie.
