A lot has been happening down at the club recently, with possibly one of the best results of the season coming from one of our very talented young sailors who has turned his sailing talents to driving ribs at high speed but with accuracy and control.
Hywel Jackson competed in the Welsh regional final at the weekend and came through to win in a time of 1:17:69 and now goes on to the nation finals in September at the Southampton boat show and will be representing Wales so well done Hywel and best of luck from everyone at the club.
Tenby Regatta
A good number of club sailors went round to Tenby this weekend to the ever popular regatta at Tenby Sailing club, always a good event and always made very welcome. Last year, the club’s team managed to gain second place in the overall team event so hopes were high of achieving a result, well this year they did even better and came first so another great result for the club.
Club members Simon Turnbul, Maurice Clarke and Paul Griffiths, with technical assistant Julia, along with Chris Martin, George Crabtree, Keith McDonald and Andy Brittan decided to pull all the strings out of the bag and came up with a fabulous result so no pressure next then when I am sure some of the locals will be after the crown back.
Next racing
Sunday, July 3, with two races starting at 16.30, with Paul and Julia on OOD.
The Bosun’s Locker
Club member Keith Jones has been very busy on the unenviable task of re-organising the dinghy park to make it more manageable and safer for club members. Currently, all club members are asked if they can identify their boats with tags that Keith has left in the harbourmaster’s office. Please try to help us improve the dinghy park and start by identifying all the boats, make sure your boat is tagged. There and many that we do not know who they belong to and are taking up valuable space. Keith is also trying to restrict the amount of public walkers using the park as a short cut to the decking so new barriers will be put in place soon, along with notices advising people that it is not a walkway.
Training
Jo Musson and her team have been very busy with all the club’s new trainees, and from what I have seen, they all seem to be enjoying the new skills they are learning and seem to be doing very well out on the water as well.
