Winning Weekend - BullsEye!
The winning weekend started on Friday night with a narrow darting victory over our close friends and rivals in Tenby SC. We found ourselves in the same position that we had been at in the previous contest before Christmas, at 5-3 up with just the doubles to play. Previously, we went on to lose all three doubles and lost 5-6. Luckily (or rather – skilfully!) on this occasion, Tim and Chris won the first doubles encounter and sealed the win. This was in fact lucky, because we then lost the last two doubles matches and escaped with a 6-5 victory. Many thanks to Tenby SC for their warm hospitality and a lovely warming curry on a bitterly cold night.
No darts this week (St. David's Day evening in the club instead) and a home match v Castle A on March 8.
Six Nations Rugby
The winning weekend continued with the rugby, with a satisfying performance against Italy. Our boys seem to have 'got it together' again after the previous long run of defeats. The tournament is wide open still and the tea time game against England on March 16 is likely to be bigger than ever (although more beer than tea is likely to be consumed to lubricate the hymns and arias!) Firstly, we have to beat Scotland at Murrayfield next Saturday 9th. Kick-off at 2.30 pm with all the action on the big screen in the club, together with half-time refreshments and value drinks from the bar. Families and friends welcome.
Ugly Duckling Transforms
The third win of the weekend was of course the magnificent victory of our local West Wales team in the League Cup final on Sunday. Apart from the euphoria of Swans supporters, the game represented a victory for the sport so usually associated with bad sportsmanship. It was very pleasing to see the exemplary behaviour of the Bradford City supporters despite the result on the day, who were just exhilarated to be there and simply exhibited their wide enjoyment in the game itself, which was played in a good spirit - very refreshing!
St. David's Day Supper
A supper of cawl and Welsh cakes is on the menu at the club from 8.30 pm tonight (Friday). We are not part of the 'official' cawl trail yet, but we are keen to practise our special recipe ready for 2014 just in case. Come along and give us your verdict. A donation to cover the cost of ingredients will be much appreciated, as will a good verdict on the recipe!
Club Improvements
At last week's meeting, the committee agreed expenditure on various further improvements to the clubhouse. Ladies will look lovelier than ever with an upgrading (nearly wrote tarting-up, but changed it in time!) of the female changing rooms. The gents are also being repainted (walls and ceiling, not male members!) Equally sparkling will be the drinking mugs and glasses as a result of a spanking new state of the art glass-washer behind the bar (no, not Huw or Rob!)
On the water side, depending upon availability of grants, it is planned to upgrade the power boat fleet fairly comprehensively too. More details later.
Club Racing
We really do need a larger pool of race officers to help run our club races and this is therefore another reminder, to anyone who might be interested, of the RYA club race officers course to be held at Cardiff Yacht Club on Saturday, March 16, between 9.30 am and 4 pm. Contact Sam Healy at [email protected]">[email protected] the quiz last week, so the quiz will run until
