Darts

Sadly, last Friday's match was washed out - unusual for an indoor sport, but the extreme weather affected the whole local transport system. Ian and Will Myers set out with high hopes, only to have to turn back, with the road blocked by two cars stuck in the floods. They then encountered more floods in Clunderwen and eventually found a route home by 10 pm! Chris set off, but was also deterred by the state of the roads. Wendy, Peter and Tim did make it, but did not really constitute an opposition, so the match had to be abandoned. I never realised that darts could be such a high risk sport!

Tonight (Friday), there is no match so the next event is on Friday, February 8, at home against Cresselly Cricket Club.

Quiz Night

Despite the continuing atrocious weather last Saturday evening, hardy members and friends turned up to pit their wits and rack their brains in our quiz night. There was much friendly rivalry, and a lot of head scratching and the lead changed hands several times. However, our congratulations go to The Commodores, eventual winners in a close contest by just two points. Thanks to Anne-Marie for masterminding the event and to all those who took part and contributed to a very enjoyable evening.

Coppet Week 2013

This year's Coppet Week is to be held between May 26 and 31 and will be a very special event this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this unique week of friendly, but competitive sailing.

There will be the usual six races, all scheduled for 10 am each day to allow for other holidaymaking, but with flexibility to bring forward or delay in order to beat the weather! In addition, a special ruby pursuit race is planned to be run after one day's racing - the exact day to be decided according to the weather in the week. Having sampled a pursuit in last year's regatta, we think it will provide added challenge, amusement and enjoyment.

There will be a full clubhouse programme, including a 'Ruby Tuesday' (apologies to the Rolling Stones) with a hog roast and live music.

Are you ready with your Hymns and Arias?

All the Wales Six Nations matches will be shown on the big screen at the club. We'll be open half-an-hour before Kick-off and refreshments will be available at half-time. Family and friends welcome. Tomorrow (Saturday) - 1.30 pm KO Wales v Ireland; Saturday, February 9 - 5 pm KO France v Wales; Saturday, February 23 - 2.30 pm KO Italy v Wales; Saturday, March 9 - 2.30 pm KO Scotland v Wales; Saturday, March 16 - 5 pm KO Wales v England.

The first one tomorrow (Saturday) against Ireland should be a corker - don't miss it.

St. David's Day Bash

Join us for an evening of everything Welsh to celebrate Saint's Day. On Friday, March 1, from 8 pm there'll be Welsh ale in the bar and a supper of cawl and Welsh cakes on the menu. We're not part of the cawl trail yet, but we are practising our recipe, so come along and give us your verdict.

Welcome Evening

We will be welcoming all members and their friends to our Fitting Out Supper on Saturday, April 6. It's a great opportunity to get together to celebrate the start of the new sailing season, and to catch up with friends old and new. We've arranged some excellent musical entertainment from our very popular local combo of MoJo and Mo, and a mouth-wateringly tasty pork roast. Proceedings are planned to kick-off at 7.30 pm.

Sail Training

Our RYA accredited sailing school is offering a very comprehensive and attractive programme for novices and ongoing learners this year.

A six-session course on Saturdays for beginners commences in April, followed by another six-module course for novice sailors wishing to improve and to start racing starting in June. An intensive week in late July is offered to beginners, improvers and advanced sailors to improve skills at all levels. A three session Day Sailors course will be held during the summer for those with RYA Level 3 and Seamanship Skills who wish to have a safe, confident approach to planning and executing a short cruise in a dinghy.

Clubhouse Matters

The beer pipeline is now repaired and the draught nectar is flowing again. No little nibblers remain so our level 5 food and hygiene status remains.

The clubhouse does matter and needs some members to assist with a bit of painting to keep it shipshape and Bristol fashion. Please contact Rob on (01834) 814424 or house [email protected]">[email protected].

Membership

Membership renewals are now due and completed forms with cheques should be posted to the club for membership secretary Jackie Riby. Renewal forms are available in the clubhouse and on the website - http://www.saundersfootsailingclub.org.uk">www.saundersfootsailingclub.org.uk

Presidential Nautical Nips

Our president Rolfe John has created some nautical posers on the message page of the website which members may enjoy. A pint over the bar is offered to winners but you will need to read the wording carefully! Be warned! Go to http://www.saundersfootsailingclub.org.uk">www.saundersfootsailingclub.org.uk and select Message page.
