Darts

The darts team are in danger of jointly suffering from vertigo as they look down from the pinnacle of their 8-3 win against Castle B last week! This was our best ever result, with good play on both sides. The radically refurbished surroundings and convivial company of the Castle Inn, Manorbier, provided a really enjoyable evening, capped with a very tasty meal all washed down with real ale.

Some cynic remarked that it can only go one way from here, but we remain indubitable!

Tonight (Friday), we are at home to the Sun Inn team from St. Florence.

Quiz Night

If your New Year's resolution was to get more exercise, here's your chance to give your little grey cells a workout. Join us at the clubhouse on Saturday, January 26, for an evening of light-hearted quizzing. You don't have to be a Mastermind to take part, just come along and have a go. Bring a team with you, make one on the night with other members, or be a team of one, it's up to you. Family and friends are very welcome to join in too. 8 for 8.30 pm start. Cost £5 per team of four (cost includes nibbles to keep your energy up and free raffle entry) and there's a prize for the winning team.

Committee

The committee has been hard at work already since the New Year reviewing spending needs and budgets, maintenance issues, activity programmes, harbour issues and the many other aspects that need to be considered to ensure the efficient operation of the club. The committee has been strengthened with the co-option of Barbara Shaw-Preedy to represent kayaking interests, Rachel Tudor to represent junior interests and Barbara Morris bringing her experience on the house management side. All committee members are accessible to any members using their function title, eg [email protected]">[email protected]

New Season Programme

The drafting of the new programme is well advanced and will be dispatched to everyone once the last tweeks are finalised. There are some new ideas and a great schedule of events - all we need now is some decent weather! This year will be the 40th anniversary of Coppet Week - any ideas for special ruby celebrations would be welcomed.

Social Events

The first social event will be the quiz on Saturday, January 26. The programme of other events will be communicated shortly and will include big screen action of the spring Six Nations games for rugby enthusiasts.

Membership

Membership renewals are now due and completed forms with cheques should be posted to the club for membership secretary Jackie Riby. Renewal forms are available in the clubhouse and on the website - http://www.saundersfootsailingclub.org.uk">www.saundersfootsailingclub.org.uk

Clubhouse Door Code

Have you renewed yet? Two weeks to go before the door lock code is changed!

Nautical Nip

An unusual problem occurred in the clubhouse during the holidays. The beer line was severed in the ladies toilet and a good part of a barrel of beer disappeared. Having eliminated lady members from enquiries, it was identified that the pipe had been gnawed through by rodents. Hopefully, licensing laws had not been infringed and no drunken rodents have yet been found! The benefit was the substitution of real ale (which avoided the severed line) for the rest of the holiday - although that went as quickly as the lost barrel, but this time, legitimately!
