Sunday Racing
Last Sunday reminded us what summer can be like when it tries, with some warm sun and a decent breeze. A dozen dinghies comprised of 10 different classes came to the start for the first of two races round a Monkstone, Pendine, Harbour course. There was strong competition during the race with Keith Jones, Paul Griffiths and Alan Lambert crossing the line with less than 10 seconds between them after three laps and nearly an hour of racing.
After the application of handicaps, Mick Lightwood (Laser 2000) demonstrated some expert sailing to take the win, but did confess that the boat was helmed by friend Mike who teaches asymmetric sailing so honorably refrained from taking any points. Keith Jones (Streaker) took second with Paul Griffiths (Solo) third. Peter Bower (Phantom) was fourth with Alan Lambert (Tasar) demonstrating capsize drill for new crew Rachel on the way round, to come fifth.
Race officers Paul Johnson and James Crowney adjusted the course to Amroth, Pendine, Monkstone for the second race which was won by Keith Jones, with Paul Griffiths second and Mick and Mike third.
Full marks to first time racing graduate Steve Caldwell who got his Topper round successfully in both races - well done Steve.
Thanks to Huw Stiley and Finley Harrison who rode shotgun on patrol.
There is a single race with a 9.30 am start this Sunday.
