Club Racing

A gentle breeze welcomed nine sailors to the Royal Marines Cup race to start the mid season series last Sunday. Three Solos, two Laser 2000s, a Streaker, an RS Vision and a Topper were wafted round a Monkstone, Pendine, Harbour course set by Tom, Ian and Will. Tim, Finlay and Graham kept a watchful eye on patrol. No drama, no extremes, but just a pleasant sail resulted in Paul Griffiths (Solo) taking first, with Keith Jones (Streaker) second, Peter Bower (Phantom) third and Paul Johnson (Solo) fourth.

There are two races planned for this coming Sunday, with a 10 am start.

CYRCS

Tomorrow (Saturday), the eager young sailors of South Wales can be seen sailing competitively in the bay in the latest Youth Racing Circuit meeting.

Managing dinghy racing

An update of rules and principles reminding all those who take to the water of safety issues and responsibilities has been circulated by email to all members and hopefully those with interests in race management will be attending the RYA Race Officer's course at Gelliswick tomorrow (Saturday).

Sail Training

A good group of adults and juniors has now completed the sail training course for Improvers leading to RYA Better Sailing - Level 3 and Seaman Skills - Level 4. It is hoped that they will all go on to the Transition to Club Racing course in July and in the meantime continue to get practice when suitable in the Sunday races.

Sessions for beginners, each lasting around four hours, commence every Saturday for six consecutive weeks from June 2. These are aimed at those with limited or no experience who want to learn to sail and cover RYA Level 1 Start Sailing and Level 2 Basic Skills.
