ST. ISSELL'S 80 (12 pts.) NEYLAND 77 (2)

The gentlemen of St. Issell's gained a narrow victory at home to Neyland last Saturday in a Pembrokeshire League Division Two encounter. Having had a few setbacks in recent league matches, they earned a much-needed win, although it was a nailbiting finalé before the points were secured. At the halfway point, the team led by 10 shots, but the visitors had cut this deficit to just two after 15 ends. With one end remaining, however, St. Issell's led by nine, but then dropped six shots across the rinks to gain victory by just three. On rink three, George Cavell led for skip Barrie Lee with debutant and new bowler Alan Rich at number two and John Arman third and in a close contest edged home by 21 shots to 18. Bob Storey, Peter Guyett, captain Billy Glynn and skip Mike Carr played the Gordon Robson four on rink four and here, too, just gained a narrow win by 20 shots to 18. Rink five saw a welcome return to skipping duties for Stew Howe who, aided and abetted by Dennis Reed, Edward Smith and Tommy Nutt, were mainly responsible for the overall win by defeating Brian McKay by 29 shots to 12. The only reverse of the day came on rink six where Graham Roberts, Tony Wheeler, Dennis Ball and Peter Satterthwaite were beaten by Colin Phelps, 29 shots to 10. Their next league match is on Sunday when they travel to play Fishguard and Goodwick.

BORDERERS 73 ST. ISSELL'S 86

Although not always getting the results that they would like in the league, the St. Issell's men maintained their good form in the Brains Cup by defeating Borderers of Whitland away by 13 shots. Three winning rinks secured the win which gives them a chance of qualifying from their group, the outcome resting on their match at home to St. Thomas, of Haverfordwest, which was due to take place at Saundersfoot this week. Rink scores, with St. Issell's first and Borderers skips only, were: Bob Storey, Peter Williams, John Haig, Don Poole 28; John Noble 12. Billy Glynn, Peter Guyett, Ken Davis, Doug Silcox 20; John Hammond 18. John Arman, Graham Roberts, Brian McKehon, Mike Oliver 18; Dan Jenner 25. Tony Wheeler, Dennis Reed, Steve Dick, Barrie Lee 20; Mike Williams 18. WHITLAND 89 (12 pts.) SAUNDERSFOOT 63 (2)

After an impressive run of four straight league victories which had carried them to third place in the Division One league table, the Saundersfoot men's team were defeated last Saturday away at Whitland. Although only nine shots adrift at the tea interval, this time there was no way back as the home team piled on the pressure to win by 26 shots. The team did return home with two points with a win for the Myrddin Dennis rink and came close in another encounter when Stevie Poole's boys narrowly lost by just one shot. Obviously, the ice lollies given by Steve Dick's wife Viv to his boys the previous week, which led to them winning eight straight ends, were sadly missed on Saturday as they finished bottom rink! Rink scores with Saundersfoot first and Whitland skips only were: John Haig, Paul Blayney, Neil Hensman, Steve Dick 11; Glyndwr Thomas 31. Alan Brace, Adam Hensman, Joe Dennis, Berwyn Dennis 11; Steve Reese 20. Roy Kennion, Mike Ashbridge, Brian McKehon, Steve Poole 19; Colin Wynn 20. Nev Ruff, Ken Davis, Brian Desmond, Myrddin Dennis 22; Liam Price 18. Tomorrow (Saturday) sees yet another away game for the team, this time at Pembroke Dock ,with hopefully a return to winning ways. WWBA TWO-WOOD COMPETITION

Saundersfoot Ladies

Saundersfoot Ladies continue to march on in their league campaign. Playing away at Whitland on Thursday night, they collected four out of six points up for grabs. The victory was thanks to captain Steph Amos, Lorna Bissell, Gemma Amos and Ceris Hewlings's storming 40 shots to two win. Angela Roberts, Kath Williams, Viv Edwards and Marion Evans had a much tighter tussle which saw them defeated by 10. Both Saundersfoot and St. Issell's ladies teams have forthcoming fixtures. The Saundersfoot girls will be the busier of the two, playing Neyland at home tonight (Friday) at 6 pm and Milford and Pendine away on Sunday and Monday at 2 pm. The St. Issell's team play away at Pembroke Dock Park this evening at 6 pm.
