St. Florence let a 2-1 lead slip as they lost the division four cup final 3-2 to Milford United Seconds in an often ill-tempered clash at Monkton.
The winning goal was scored by Gareth Fawcett, a towering centre forward who usually plays rugby for Milford Haven.
Goals by Jamie Roberts and Adrian Taylor in the first half gave St. Florence a lead going into the break and they should have capitalised on this in the second when playing with a stiff breeze on their backs.
That they didn't was down to a lack of composure in front of goal. Roberts had an overhead kick cleared off the line, while Brett Evans hit the post with a free-kick and right at the death saw his effort fly over the bar when United were down to 10 men following Neil Turner's red card.
Had he scored, the game would have gone into extra-time and it was no more than they deserved as they were the dominant team for a good proportion of the match.
Milford equalised within a minute of the second half before St. Florence's proliferation of chances should have seen them win. Then came Fawcett's neat finish with about five minutes to go that killed off Saints' hopes of a comeback.
Undeterred by the result, St. Florence manager Darryl Evans had nothing but praise for his team.
"It was a cracking game that could have gone either way. We had our chances, but it wasn't to be, but I'm proud of the way our boys played."
