Last Sunday Tenby Under 11s had a home fixture against Milford. From the first whistle it was clear the game was going to be a very physical encounter. The forwards battled hard for the first quarter of the game, both sides tried to apply the pressure which in turn was leading to a few mistakes by both teams.
It would eventually be Milford who would open the scoring and with a converted try led 0-7. Tenby followed this by building a bit of momentum of their own. A strong run by Connor brought play up onto the Milford line but the Milford defence stood strong and a few loose passes by the seasiders saw Milford back in possession and slowly regaining the territory to cross for their second try of the day. The score now stood at 0-14.
Tenby were determined to create some running rugby that they enjoy playing and a lovely run by Alfie down the touchline brought play back onto the Milford line. Some determined play by Tenby’s forwards saw them chip away at the Milford defence and eventually would see Sophie crash over for Tenby’s first try of the morning. Connor was to convert leaving the score at 7-14 to Milford.
Tenby were starting to put together some good phases of play, fast hands moving the ball across the attacking line enabled Connor to find the space to run the length of the field to score just before half time. Score at half time was 12-14 to Milford.
At the opening of the second half Milford came out quick and scored a try in the first few minutes and increase their lead to 12-2. Tenby kept their composure, even under some big tackles resulting in a loss of few players through injury. Tenby tried to keep running the ball at every opportunity and were working hard to gain some vital territory but unfortunately a long pass saw Milford intercept and have a run away try in the corner. Score now stood at 12-28.
Tenby kept their heads and showed fantastic strength to put together some good phases and a strong run by Alfie and perfectly timed offload put Louie over. Converted by Rowan, the score was now 19-28. Tenby were looking good and were determined to try and chip away at the scoreline once more in the last few minutes of the game. But they found themelves on their own line, and with the pressure from Milford mounting, a kick to try and gain some space was charged down and Milford were to touch down for the final try of the morning. Final score was 19-35 to Milford.
