Last Sunday, Tenby Under 11s took on Narberth in a home fixture at the Clicketts.

The opening score was to fall to the hands of Narberth. With the Seasiders looking to move the ball quickly, pressure from the away team forced a few handling errors from Tenby and Narberth were to take advantage of the loose ball and crash over to open the score. A missed conversion saw the score sit at 0-5 to the away team.

A great charge from Jayden brought play back into the Narberth half, but the away team were putting in some big tackles and were making breaking through their defensive line very hard for Tenby and eventually Narberth would find themselves back in possession and ran the length of the field to score their second unconverted try, leaving the score now 0-10.

Tenby were trying hard to put together some phases and fight for terrority and a strong run by Rhys and a well-timed pop pass to Lewis in support would help draw the Narberth defence in and create enough space for Alfie to cross in the corner and the Seasiders found themselves back in the game at 5-10 going into half-time.

Narberth started the second half with wave after wave of attacking runs, chipping away at the Seasiders’ defensive line and being rewarded with the opening try of the half. With the try also converted the score was now 5-17 to Narberth.

Momentum was swinging Narberth’s way, their forwards were showing great strength in the breakdown and turning over the ball on more than one occasion. This was resulting in Tenby struggling to contain the Narberth attack and eventually they were to cross again and extend their lead to 5-24.

Tenby continued to show good strength of character to keep pushing forward and try to string some phases together. But some big tackles by the opposition were to stop any potential chance to score.

Nearing the final whistle, it was Narberth who would have the final say and cross for one last try, with the game ending 5-31 to the visitors.

Man of the match was given to Lewis.

Special thanks on the day to Ollie Tucker, Maddox Evans, Ethan Lewis and Evan Christen who stepped in to help provide the Under 11s with enough players to field a team.

Under 7s

Last Sunday saw Tenby Under 7s host Narberth at the Clicketts ground.

Tenby are improving week on week and Sunday’s match was no disappointment. They were up against a strong Narberth team, facing some strong attacking rugby. However, Tenby’s defence was yet again on top form, with some excellent tagging from the whole team.

Tenby were delighted to win their fifth match in a row, scoring 10 tries to Narberth’s nine.

Man-of-the-match went to Jevan for his excellent running.

Team: Caitlyn Lewis, Rupert James, Bradley Rossiter, Ethan Brace, Jude Christen, Craig Roberts, Jevan Guymer, Rhys Broadhurst.

Tries: Caitlyn, Craig (2), Jude (2), Jevan (2), Ethan (3).

Under 13s

Last weekend, Tenby Swifts Under 13s were on the road again, travelling east to play against Carmarthen Athletic.

On a sticky pitch, running rugby proved difficult, but the young Swifts did come out on top with victory by four tries to two. All squad members had a good run out and the coaches were pleased with the final score of 26 points to 10.

Team pictured and try scorers were Iorri R, Joe, Will A, Alex, Duane-Lee(1), Jake, Fletcher(1), Kyle(1), Tristan, Max J(1), Cameron, Josh, Cairan, Iori B, Max H, Ethan, Miller, Freddie and Ollie.

Tenby Under 12s rugby

Sunday saw Tenby under 12s Swifts travel to Narberth RFC for a gloriously sunny but very chilly morning of rugby, playing both the host team and Carmarthan Athletic. First opponents were Carmarthan, who having played (and beaten) Narberth first, were well warmed up and eager to add another scalp to their tally.

The game started with a flourish, both sides working hard to turn over the loose ball when it was in the ruck. Unfortunately, with Carmarthan already “in the zone” from their previous match, they were that little bit quicker to the ball and they were the first the touchline (and subsequently convert) 7-0. Tenby continued to work hard and had the majority of the play but just somehow managed to loose possession in the rucks at critical moments, giving the fast Carmarthan winger the opportunity to make a break and score their second (unconverted) try. Half time 12-0.

The second half started well for the Seasiders with a great team effort capitalised by Eddie showing the opponents his heels and scoring Tenby’s first points, Fin successfully converting to bring the score back to 12-7. Once again however, too much hesitation to the mauls cost them dearly and despite Tenby having the greater possession, they conceded another two tries (1 conversion) to extend the points gap to 24-7. This final score certainly didn’t reflect the dynamics and competitiveness of the game and Tenby were unlucky not to be able to utilise their better possession and hard work into points on the board. A great team effort indeed, although special mention to Keaton for his demon tackling in this match.

After a quick drink and team talk, it was back onto the pitch to face Narberth. They had a number of big and physical players (one or two who were unfortunately a little too keen to use their size illegally on more than one occasion!) and with the hosts scoring two quick early tries (both converted), it wasn’t looking promising for the Swifts.

Thankfully they didn’t drop their heads and their determination paid off with Sonny making a great strong run through the Narberth defence to get Tenby’s first points on the board. With a difficult kick, however, the conversion was missed, the score standing at 14-5. Fin then had an outstanding run from the half way line to score his first try of the season, which he also subsequently converted, bringing the gap down to two points 14-12.

Unfortunately Narberth managed to penetrate the Seasiders defence once more before the half time whistle, 21-12 the score at the break.

The second half started like the first, with Narberth scoring a quick try, but missed the conversion, 26-12. It seemed as the game was running away from the Seasiders, which was so incredibly frustrating as the whole of the squad were all working so hard yet some silly mistakes at crucial moments meant they were simply unable to reap the rewards!

Thankfully however, their team spirit and unwavering determination finally paid off: Rhys E scored his first try of the season (unconverted) 26-12. Fin had another incredible run but was unfortunately brought down just shy of the line, however Rhydian was in the perfect supporting position and able to offload the ball to Rhys E, who was subsequently able to bag himself a second try. With Fin converting, the score was only a 1 point difference 26-25. The excitement was palatable on the sideline, with the supporters from both teams now constantly checking their watches to see how long was left to play. Thankfully Tenby were able to continue their run of tries with Eddie having two cracking runs and jinxing through the defence twice more to secure the win. Fin added to his kicking tally, successfully converting both, to bring the final score to 26-39.

A thoroughly well deserved win for the lads, reflecting not only all the hard work done in training to greatly improve on the weaker areas of the game, but also the great team spirit shown on the pitch. Looking strong for the remainder of the season!

Coach’s men of the match were Keaton on Game 1 and Eddie on Game 2.

The squad were- Rhydian; Deri; Jacob; Eddie; Dan; Rhys E; Rhys S; Fin; George; Sonny; Iwan; Paddy; Tom Y; Tom W; Keaton and Ieaun.
