On Friday evening, Tenby Swifts Under 8s were honoured to play at half-time during the quarter-final of the European Champions Cup held at Parc Y Scarlets.
To say they were excited to play in front of over 15,000 people would be an understatement and not an ounce of nerves!
They enjoyed every second of it and were so thankful for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Some of them got the taste of playing in front of an extremely large crowd and we should lookout for them in the future!
Pictured are the team that took part - Raph, Aidan, Ollie, Charlie, Harry, Dylan, Cian, Iori, coach Nick (missing from photo were coach Jimmy, Calum and Jenson).
On behalf of all the Swifts and Tenby United RFC, well done boys!
Under 11s
A squad of 13 young Seasiders turned up on Sunday to face a touring team from Abertillery and from simply observing their warm-up drills, it was apparent that the visitors were a well-organised bunch and Tenby needed to be on their A-game!
With Abertillery kicking-off the match, Ollie gathered the ball really well and passed it to Eddie, who utilised his speed and side-stepped his way through the slightly surprised defence and scored a try with only the second touch of the game!
An unexpected, but fantastic start for Tenby!
With Abertillery shocked into action, however, the game began properly: both teams battling for possession and ground. Despite Cody, Rhys, and Ollie showing great determination and timing in some early bone-crunching tackles, the visitors managed to break through the Tenby defensive line and scored the next three tries.
However, Tenby’s heads thankfully didn’t drop and with some nice phases of handling and passing in the middle of the pitch, they fought back and made good yardage into the visitors’ half.
Consistency and patience in attack culminated in a lovely move between Rhys, Ollie and Eddie, who went on to score his second try of the match. With no conversion kicks being played, there was now only one try between the two teams.
It was Abertillery who scored next, but Tenby once again quickly responded with another attack and Eddie scorched his way up the sideline to bag his hat-trick.
Two subsequent tries by Abertillery saw the half-time score 25-15 in their favour.
The second half was, in all honesty, not a great spectator experience.
With seven further tries conceded in this half, the final score was a disappointing 60-15.
Tenby squad: Eddie, Cody, Dan, Ollie, Deri, Rhys S, Jobe, Imi, Fin, George, Ieuan, Tom W and Jacob.
