PEMBROKE First XV travelled to Heywood Lane on Saturday to take on Tenby Athletic, who had had an emphatic win the previous weekend, writes Darrell Willington.

After their win at home to Quins the weekend before hopes were high on claiming a second league win in both camps.

The weather was horrendous, with frequent, very heavy showers, which provided difficult conditions underfoot and a slippery ball.

Tenby started with a bang, whilst the visitors made lots of unforced errors and took the whole of the first quarter to settle into the game.

Tenby’s energetic and aggressive start from their pack in the loose saw them claim three excellent tries during this period, all of which were converted by the talented Tenby ten Rossiter from out wide.

Despite losing their No 7 to a yellow card after thirty minutes, the home side’s forwards in concert with their half backs ran the show and they consolidated their deserved lead with a penalty and further converted try.

Pembroke scored a well contrived try late in the half, but the home side held a large lead at the break.

The third quarter saw the visitors begin to impact on the game and prevent any further scores by Tenby.

After twenty minutes and good pressure, the visitors put together a well constructed series of phases, which lead to a try wide out.

Rossiter given two more chances to slot two more easy penalties to extend his side’s lead, before they received their second yellow card.

Pembroke failed to take advantage of some good movements during the last ten minutes and then very late in the half the home side cemented an emphatic win with an opportunist, late, converted try.
