PEMBROKE First XV were due to travel to Llangwm in Rd 1 of the WRU Division 4 National Cup competition, but sadly they could not field a team. The Panthers also did not have a scheduled fixture, writes Darrell Willington.
The Youth hosted a strong Aberystwyth squad on a showery, breezy day.
Pembroke started brightly, forcing a few early turnovers at the breakdown, but they were unable to penetrate a determined Aber defence.
One home attack advanced into the Aber half, but a dropped pass was seized upon by the Aber fifteen and he raced in unopposed to open the scoring.
After a period of stalemate, the visitors mounted a concerted attack through multiple phases and scored a second try.
The visitors continued to use possession effectively and despite some solid home defensive work scored their third try minutes before the break to hold a big lead.
The second half saw the visitors dominate possession for long periods, with their forwards and backs combining really well to score another four very well crafted tries to extend their lead.
The home side put in some equally hard work and made inroads on a number of occasions, but sloppy handling in critical areas meant they failed capitalize on excellent approach work.
The visitors key players had a huge impact on the game and scoreline and they were deserved winners of an entertaining match.
