A BUSY weekend for Pembroke RFC started with the U16s at home to Crymych on Friday evening, in front of a healthy crowd, on a heavy pitch.
Both teams gave of their all in what was an enthralling and exciting encounter.
The visitors played some very good rugby to build a sizeable lead at 7-17 by the break.
After strong words from their coaching group the home side sprung to life and got themselves back to 17-17, playing some excellent open rugby, with their forwards and backs combining well.
But with only a couple of minutes remaining, the visitors snatched an interception try to claim the win.
On Saturday the First XV travelled to Llangwm, hoping to claim a much-needed win, with few key personnel missing; with skipper Lloyd Davies out through injury, the squad was captained for the first time by their very proud 19-year-old hooker Danny Davies.
The pack and backs combined well on the damp and heavy ground, and the first half saw the visitors score some very well contrived tries and build a big lead by the break.
Llangwm mounted some solid attacks and scored two very good tries, but the visitors dominated the larger proportion of territory and possession and added to their tally in the second half, eventually running out very worthy winners by 14-43, which leaves them mid table at present.
The Youth played Fishguard at home on Saturday afternoon, in dry weather, but on a heavy pitch, which made the players on both sides work hard.
The first half was very well contested by both sides, both using the ball well to mount multiple attacks.
However, the home side’s defensive work combined with more effective work in attack saw them built a good lead by the break.
After the break the home forwards again combined very effectively with their backs to produce some flowing rugby and multiple scores to extend their lead.
Not to be outdone the visitors scored too. The dominance of the home side told and they ran out very worthy winners by 65-24.
The Panthers travelled to Tycroes on Sunday afternoon. On a heavy pitch they dominated their opponents for long periods in both halves and scored some excellently worked tries.
Their persistence and tenacity saw them dominate possession for long periods in the second half and rack up more points, eventually winning by 0-35.
The whole Junior section played against Crymych at the weekend, with some notable wins and near misses across the age ranges, the coaches were generally very pleased with the performances from their young charges.
Upcoming fixtures include, First XV home to Teirw Crymych on Saturday. 2.30pm, the Youth play Crymych away, the Panthers don’t have a fixture on Sunday and the Juniors will all be in action on Sunday.
