PEMBROKE First XV suffered a loss away at Narberth Athletic in the Pembs KO Cup Rd 1 the Friday night before; Narberth had dominated possession in the first half and scored some good tries to lead 24-5 at the break.
The visitors put up excellent resistance in the second half and turned the tables, scoring an early try and restricting the home side to three points, until they conceded a very late try, in what was a very competitive match.
Last Saturday the First XV entertained Tonyrefail in very wet, windy conditions, in front of a very good crowd.
Ton, who were relegated from Div 3 East Central last season will play this season in Div 4; they had already played pre-season friendlies and were keen to make an impression on their first visit to Crickmarren for many years.

The match was another very competitive affair, with Ton scoring the first try, the home side replying quickly, but then the visitors opened up a 10-19 lead at the break.
Second half Pembroke failed to capitalize on some excellent moves through many simple handling errors, whilst Ton made the most of theirs to extend their lead and eventually run out worthy winners, in a very entertaining match.
Pembroke host Pembroke Dock Harlequins, on Saturday, 13 September, with the kick off at 2.30pm.
The Panthers having won a pre-season friendly are due to open their WRU West Wales League season against Newcastle Emlyn at home on Sunday, 14 September, KO 2.30pm.
The Panthers held a very successful tour fundraiser at the Castle Inn (Pembroke) on August 23 and would like to thank the pub management for their support.
The Youth played a weakened Llangwm in a pre-season friendly last Friday night and dominated the match, eventually winning quite comfortably.
They will play Neyland away in their League opener on Saturday and then they are due to entertain Llangwm in a League fixture on 13 September, with this match possibly kicking off early, prior to the First XV’s match with the QUINS, which will be sponsored by the Former Players Association and the match ball by Kevin Watts.
The Junior section get their matrix matches underway in the coming weeks; all age groups have been training hard in anticipation of their new season.
The very popular weekly Thursday coffee mornings continue between 10am and midday, as does the equally popular Friday evening social rugby sessions.
Everyone is welcome to come along to either.
The social committee are holding an Octoberfest style event at the clubhouse on 18 October; a limited number of tickets are on sale at the bar.
