Pembroke Dock Quins 5 pts.

Cardigan RFC 31

The Quins put up a brave performance before going down to promotion hopefuls Cardigan.

The Quins could not have got off to worse start when the Teifisiders punished a loose kick with a try from fullback Iestyn Crompton after just two minutes. Outside-half Llyr Jones added the extras.

A second try for the visitors soon followed from powerful number eight Liam Griffiths as he broke away from an attacking scrum to touch down under the uprights, with Jones converting.

With just 15 minutes gone on the clock, things were looking ominous for the Quins, but they responded magnificently, and, with their rolling maul which has caused problems to most sides this season, forced numerous penalties out of the visitors.

The Quins then had a stroke of luck when right winger Rhyddian Jenkins knocked-on behind his own line, and from the resultant scrum, their man-of-the-match, number eight Sam Dolling, on permit from Milford Haven, picked up from the base of the scrum and powered over to keep the Quins in the match.

Hathway was wide with the conversion.

The Quins now looked far more settled, but just as the half-time whistle was about to sound, Jenkins made up for his earlier error when he finished off a Cardigan counter-attack with a fine unconverted try in the corner.

The Quins started the second half knowing they had to score next, but unfortunately it was the visitors who were first on the scoresheet; this time it was centre Llyr Harries who touched down and Llyr Jones converted to push the score out to 26-5.

With the bonus point now secure, the Teifisiders had got what they came for.

The Quins still kept up the pressure and were unlucky not to force another score as their commitment could not be faulted, but it was the visitors who grabbed the final score when outstanding number eight Liam Griffiths forced his way over for an unconverted try with virtually the last move of the match.
