The Quins suffered a huge blow to their Championship ambitions, going down at home to the League leaders, and registering their third successive defeat in the process.

The game was played in poor conditions,with a biting wind blowing across the pitch.

Lampeter pressurized the Quins straight from the off, and the warning signs were there and when outside half Osian Jones pushed a simple penalty wide.

The Quins seemed to get out of jail, but the visitors hit back straight away when a rolling maul close to the hosts’ line was finished off when flanker David Heath forced his way over wide out. Osian Jones missed the conversion.

The Quins to their credit soon went on the offensive and a superb kick and chase by right wing Damien Miller put them in an attacking position which forced the visitors to transgress.

Outside half Tyler Castle added the points to pull the score back to 3-5.

Lampeter hit back on 25 minutes when centre Gareth Griffiths burst between two Quins defenders to score half-way out, but once again though Jones missed the conversion.

The Quins now had their backs to the wall but were unlucky not to score a try of their own when young left wing Gethin Bradney showing great determination and no little skill touched down in the corner, but the Quins were pulled back for crossing which looked a harsh decision at the time.

The first half ended with the visitors firmly entrenched on the Quins’ 5 yard line.

The Quins repelled attack after attack until they finally cracked when second row Daryl Davies powered his way over in the corner with the last move of the half.

Although Jones missed the conversion, it was a cruel blow for the Quins to concede right on the break, and at 3-15 down had it all to do in the seconf half.

It turned quickly into a war of attrition with both sides not giving a inch as the conditions deteriated alarmingly.

The crucial moment came when the Quins failed to find touch from a penalty, which went straight into the hands of left winger Ruan Homer who set off on a long arching run which ended with Osian Jones winning the race to Touch down halfway out, he converted himself to end the game as a contest.

With the conditions now dangerous, and in semi darkness the referee after consulting with both teams blew up with 5 minutes left on the clock.
