LAST Thursday the Redwing fleet at Tenby Sailing Club raced a port course to the Waterwynch mark and then to Eastern and back, writes Harrison Richards.
The breeze being patchy and variable with occasional ‘holes’ near Monkstone caused a bit of a spread of the boats as they fought the ebb flowing down from Monkstone.
On the upwind leg out near Eastern there was enough breeze at times to get crews out on the wire.

After two laps they finished at Monkstone with 244 first, 228 second, 178 third and 241 fourth. Later the sailors reflected with post-race discussions and enjoyed drinks and tapas up in the club.
Last weekend saw Tenby host the latest in the series of RYA Welsh Dragon junior racing events.
Saturday saw 10 junior sailors take part in race training day led by RYA Coach Rhys Bromhall supported by the full Tenby instructor team, focusing on starting sequences, mark rounding and hiking in the strong winds throughout the day.

Sunday morning saw 13 sailors take on two races in gusty conditions using a trapezoid course followed by a third race after lunch using a windward leeward course to make use of the sheltered bay with the afternoon’s incoming tide.
Overall results for the junior handicap were: first Isabelle Nuttall, second Harry Hayden, third Archie Hayden.
Overall results for the training handicap for those taking part in their first few racing events were: first Poppy Burton, second Iestyn Day, third Nia Jenkins.
These events aim to give junior sailors a fun and supportive introduction into dinghy racing whilst also improving sailing techniques and building confidence with other sailors from clubs across the region.
