Pembroke Dock Quins 32 pts.

St. Davids 14

The Quins pulled off their first win of the season at the expense of local rivals St. Davids on Saturday in another improved performance.

It took the Quins just 10 minutes to get on the scoreboard when a superb pass by new outside-half Charlie Berry sent centre Rhys Marchant storming over under the posts from 30 yards out, which was nonchalantly converted with a drop kick from right wing Ade John.

The Quins pack, which was reinforced by the return of inspirational captain and number eight Barry Parsons, was well on top in the early exchanges, with the scrum and lineout going well.

The home side's left wing Ryan Neilson was next on the scoresheet when he finished off a fine move in the 15th minute which was started started by a powerful run by Parsons, to force his way over in the bottom left-hand corner.

John missed the difficult conversion, but the confidence which had been slowly building over the last few weeks was now beginning to shine through and it was not long before outstanding flanker Alex Pierce raced in from near the halfway line to touchdown under the posts.

Amazingly John hit the post with another drop goal conversion attempt, but with the Quins 17-0 up at the break, the signs looked good for the second half.

After the break, they scored a truly outstanding try, which was started with a mesmerising run by Berry, who seemed to beat at least half-a-dozen players on his own 25 before linking with Parsons and once the number eight had the ball their was no stopping the Quins captain.

Berry missed the conversion, but his side, now with a 22-point lead, looked to be home and dry and when Neilson grabbed his second try of the match, which again went unconverted, to push the score out to 27-0, it was all over.

With 15 minutes of the match still remaining, it was a question of how many points the Quins would rattle up.

Parsons forced his way over for his second try of the match after a magnificent break by flanker Joe Powell to end the scoring for the Quins.

The Saints never threw the towel in and were rewarded with with two late tries which scuppered the Quins' hopes of keeping a clean sheet in defence.

First centre Jack Jones scored a fine try after the Quins defence was outflanked.

Saints scrum-half Geraint Morris converted, and then in the last move of the match, he scored a quite remarkable try.

With the Quins on the attack after a fine pass from fullback Etika Navunisaravi it looked for all money a try for Marchant, but he knocked on fractionally short of the line.

The referee signalled for the knock-on, but as everyone was waiting for the resulting scrum, Morris touched down and dropped out from the 22, before following up his kick to score under the Quins posts, which he converted himself to be rewarded for his enterprise.

For the Quins, they are through to the next round where they will play the winners of Aberaeron/Milford Haven at Bierspool.

Tomorrow (Saturday), the Quins are home again to local rivals Neyland.
